Football issues

No one wants to take on the liability. Needed that passed by Congress. NCAA smart at this point. Don't sanction shit cuz you know when five or six football players die you're gonna get the shit sued out of you.

The race card has been heavily played poorly on this thread. Becoming illeligable in all other sports is unreasonable and unfair. You'd be screwing so many black athletes

What on earth are you talking about? Football players getting proper health care and compensation won’t hurt other athletes unless the powers that be choose to hurt other athletes.

I’ve never had a conversation where someone who said “race card” had anything intelligent to say. The people who say that just want to silence people who aren’t white. It’s easy to think your nonsense is gold if you cut others out of the conversation.

The demands of the group go well beyond covid. They admit, already posted, that they would get kicked out of the NCAA.

You have tried to make this a racial issue. It is not.

Black men who want to be compensated and to work in safe conditions are “unreasonably demanding.” Ok.

That’s not a new argument, mebane. How are they going to become men if you treat them like boys?

The Pac-12 has as many football players identify as white as they do black. More identify as other.

The main demand is reasonably about Covid. it's after that which causes issues:

The group is asking the Pac-12 to distribute 50% of each sport's conference revenue evenly among athletes in their respective sports, to give six-year athletic scholarships and for the ability to transfer one time with impunity.

Huma said the players are aware that if the Pac-12 met their demands that the conference would not be eligible to participate in NCAA-sanctioned competitions or championships.

"Right now, it's clear that the conferences don't need the NCAA. Each conference is an industry unto itself," Huma said. "[The players are saying,] 'We're fine if our conference doesn't belong to the NCAA at all. We need to be treated fairly.'"

Getting kicked out of the NCAA is not a reasonable demand.

When people bitch about the race card it usually means they don't like to be called out for their racist words.

The numbers for football are readily available, a few years old.

Football Revenue and Profit

If the Pac 12 football players want 50% of gross revenue, and are also demanding to keep their scholarships, implicitly they are saying "kill all sports programs except football, men's basketball and women's basketball at a few schools."

The current economic model of college sports has football and men's basketball providing the revenue that allows all the other sports programs to exist. (A few women's basketball programs are generating revenue that exceeds expenses. Most do not.)
If the players' proposal does get the Pac12 kicked out of the NCAA, I wonder if they thought about the Rose Bowl, or the other bowl tie-ins of the conference. NCAA sanctions bowls. Bye bye NCAA = bye bye bowls. Bye bye millions in football revenue.

The demands for health care and guarantees of scholarship etc. are reasonable and should be met. The football players are taking on significant risk in Covid that adds to the risk of football injuries. The players need to be taken care of for Covid illness just like for any sports related injury. And really, should get some significant health care post college.

Ph blatantly making this into a racial issue when there is no reason to do so is pretty disgusting.

I wonder why everyone wants to fight Ph on this when some of us other, paler posters have also brought up the racial aspect of this.

Weird.

Reading over the last three pages it was just you and Ph bringing up the race issue. Sorry you felt left out. I'm sure they disagree with you too.
