Climate Change & Natural Disasters Thread

I know not to cover the boiling pot obviously. But occasionally it will boil up and a bit over if on too aggressive once pasta is in. Or if you are sautéing and spatter a bit. Bottom line is glass stove tops suck to clean.

just do the wooden spoon trick, or keep cleaning up the mess, the choice is yours

Texas is facing a serious situation tonight. Temperatures are in the single digits and 4 million customers are without power.

What’s all that oil for?

They rely on natural gas for a lot of their power and the nature of NG means it's hard to store. So, when there's a spike in demand, they have trouble keeping up.

Also, they get about 20% from wind and some of the turbines weren't designed to operate at such low temps.

AND - because #texas, their power grid is isolated and they can't get help from other areas.

Nordic countries have windmills with de-icer in the blades and can handle low temps. Probably thought not needed in Texas, and 99.9% of the time they would be right.

Gen IV Nuclear is the clean, green, reliable answer.

It seems like our Reagan inspired 50 year infrastructure divestment is coming home to roost. Just wait until all the bridges start collapsing, it can't be too much longer.

So they aren't going to secede now?

Well, that guy resigned and his wife got fired. Good job.

It's always interesting seeing these Republican pols being forced to resign when their only real crime as far as the GOP is concerned is saying out loud what the great majority of Republicans think and believe in private. That dude's comment is pretty much everything about the modern GOP in a nutshell: you and your family are on your own, the government owes you nothing and has no obligation to help you peons survive even disasters or personal misfortune, and if you can't survive or get by it's your own damn fault for not being wealthy or powerful enough to have flunkies and servants and aides to help you get by. Survival of the Fittest in its perfect form.

Totally reliant on wind.

Cruz voted against helping states after Hurricane Sandy. He refuses to help states during Covid, but because Texas fucked up and created their own electrical grid, he thinks TX should be helped.

Even the clown college wouldn't accept Cruz.

Texas should be helped. 100%

Absolutely they should be helped. But he needs to be held up for critical rebuke in every statement.

There should be at least some conditions. At the top should be replacing the wind turbines with ones that don't freeze like many states and countries use. TX was too cheap and stupid to buy the right ones.
