Doubtful. Usually that language means half the buyout has to be paid in 30 days. In this case, it means Auburn has to pay Malzhan around $10.7 million in the next 30 days.

Terms like that make buyouts more difficult for the school to do.

This. While Auburn might not be a perennial powerhouse, they have been to two title games since 2010 and have beaten Saban four times. Tennessee hasnít done shit since Ď98. Auburn fans and UT fans arenít even in the same building when it comes to bragging rights and expectations, let alone the same table.

He was on my short list if Clawson had taken any of the jobs he was rumored to be taking.

Elko comes to mind too as a Clawson replacement.

Elko already makes as much as Clawson. Keep looking.

Dave Arranda took the Baylor job, even though LSU was willing to make the highest paid assistant. At some point, everyone not named Brent Venables wants to be a head coach, regardless of how much they are making as an assistant.

FWIW, Clawson's name is reportedly on Illinois' list. Not too concerned about that job; really hard to win there; no natural recruiting advantages; the most fertile area for recruiting in the State is around Chicago, and Notre Dame (in addition to the Big 10 power schools) have more sway around Chicago than Illinois.

Malzahn raised their expectations with his first year. We'll see if they can hire someone better.

Venables is afraid to take a head coaching job because he's worried he'd have to actually control himself on the sidelines and it would look bad if a head coach had to have a "hip grabbing coach" following him all over the sidelines.

Does Jimmy get mentioned for any of these jobs?

I don't think Clawson is likely to be a serious candidate or that he is likely to leave but I do think the Illinois job is much better than you suggest. The recruiting footprint isn't bad when you think about the other teams in the B1G West. Who in that division has a better one? Certainly not Nebraska or Iowa. NW is a better location but it's limited my admissions. Purdue, Wisconsin and Minnesota have no obvious geographic recruiting advantage.

Plus, Illinois just last year opened an $80m football facility that according to Tom Luginbill is one of the 5 best he's seen. https://fightingillini.com/facilitie...pect%20hosting.

And as consistent as Wisconsin and Iowa have been, it's not like you have to get past OSU or PSU or Michigan to win that division. If Illinois hires the right coach, there's no reason it can't be relevant in that division. Their last 3 hires, Ron Zook, Tim Beckman and Lovie, were objectively awful hires.

It's at best a lateral move from Wake that's not worth leaving for. They should be able to hire an up and coming coach who could win there though.

Babcock is holding a press conference tomorrow to discuss "football topics", but reports out are saying Fuente gets another year in Blacksburg. Needless to say, the fanbase is not taking the news well.

Babcock earned a lot of capital when he landed Buzz Williams. Spending some of it now on Fuente is understandable under all the circumstances. Having said that, if Babcock decided to look elsewhere in the next couple of years, a lot of schools would be happy to have him.
