2020-21 WF Basketball Season - "Experts" Think We Suck

Are we going to be able to watch any of the games in this MTE? I assume they'll be carried on ESPN3.

Any tickets going to be sold to watch in person or will we still have the indoor limit of 25 people due to Governor Cooper limitations?

Interesting that many of Troy's games have alternate dates listed. Or are they playing on consecutive nights? That would cut down the travel. ETA: It's apparently the latter. Sun Belt teams will play each team in their division 4 times. The Big South has also gone to 2-game homestands. Can't imagine that the coaches are fond of the idea.

Add a 12/13 tilt against the Presby Blue Hose to the LJVM "March of the Cupcakes".

So we know we're playing Delaware State and now Presby, we will see Stetson next? Is this the Forbes revenge tour for the past embarrassments of Bzzz and Danny?

The Black Sheep Choice is Yours Tour.

Sounds like ~1000 (7% capacity) will be allowed to attend.

2020-21 KP ratings are out.

Deacs are rated #130, just ahead of Ohio U and just behind UC Irvine (Russell Turner). WF finished last season at #103. So, KP projected the Deacs a net loser based upon the talent leaving and coming (coaching is not factored in). FWIW, may be overly optimistic, but I think the Deacs will end the season rated higher than last year's mark of #103, even though last year's team was more experienced and more talented.

ACC is a little down this year. Here are the KP ACC ratings (with national ratings):

1. Duke (#3)
2. L'ville (#14)
3. UVA (#16)
4. FSU (#19)
5. UNC (#23) --- they finished last year #84
6. Cuse (#29)
7. VT (#30)
8. Clemson (#40)
9. Miami (#41)
10. State (#55)
11. GT (#73)
12. Pitt (#83)
13. ND (#100)
14. BC (!08)
15. Deacs (#130)

The biggest risers in the conference are VT +75, BC +73, Miami +63, UNC +61, Clemson +32, UVA +26.

The biggest drops are ND -43 and WF -27.

Numbers never lie. So, based on these rankings in a normal year the ACC would expect to get 8 or 9 teams into the NCAAT, right? That sounds about right. I see UVA as under-ranked and VPI as over-ranked (by a lot).

KP is putting a lot of faith in VT transfers. They added 4. The best is guard Carter Diarra, who averaged 13 ppg for K State, and rebounding forward Justyn Mutts from Delaware who WF also went after. Young seems like a pretty solid coach, but after a great start last year, VT collapsed and finished a game out of last in the ACC, and they lost their best player, Landers Nolley, to transfer. It seems like VT will be better, but agree that they don't seem like "on the verge of top 25" better.

Ody has been out for over a week with mono. No timetable on his return.

I imagine Ody with mono probably has the same energy level of most people without mono.

#130 makes sense given the transfers out and graduations. Agree that we'll end up higher than that when it is all said and done... These rankings do not incorporate coaching changes, which is clearly a net positive in this case.

The groupings/clusters fit pretty well with my expectations... No reason Wake Forest couldn't finish as high as #11 in the conference, with a move into that #8-10 range as the likely "blue sky" scenario for the season. Moving higher than that would be really impressive with this roster relative to the competition.

Playing their way into the middle tier of the ACC would be a huge accomplishment for this group of Wake players. Doing that should net Forbes coach of the year.

Can we bring in Siena, Coastal Carolina & Furman so we can revenge teams that Bob Staak lost to at home? [all in the same season]

Yeah, but Staak was too hammered to remember those games, so they don't count.

Random, but just saw DickyV putt Sarr on his first team list for this year... cmon man

If Sarr had returned to WF, he might be the ACC pre-season POY. There really is no great returning player in the conference this year. As an example, this is "Three-Man-Weave's" pre-season ACC first, second and third teams:

1st team:

G David Johnson, Soph. L'ville
F Jalen Johnson, Fr. Duke
G/F Scottie Barnes, Fr. FSU
F/C Jay Huff Sr., UVA
F/C, Garrison Brooks, UNC

2nd Team

G Kiehi Clark, Jr. UVA
G Joe Girard, Soph. Cuse
G Jose Alvardo, Sr. GT
F Sam Hauser (transfer) Sr. UVA
F Aamir Simms, Sr., Clemson

3rd Team

G Chris Lykes, Sr. Miami
G MJ Walker, Sr. FSU
G Caleb Love, Fr. UNC
G Samuell Williamson, So. L'ville
F Matthew Hurt, So. Duke

That's a lot of pretty ordinary players projected to be the top 15 in the conference.
