If your router/modem came new 5 years ago, then you shouldn't be impacted by that equipment. However, the DOCSIS standard changed around 2010, and if your modem doesn't support DOCSIS 3.0, you need to get a new one.

We upgraded to Google Mesh early in the pandemic and it solved all of the issues we were having.

Thanks for the recommendations as went with the Google nest wifi mesh system. It has made a massive difference in speeds as went from a max of around 90 mbps to over 300 mbps in download speeds and the connection is equally as strong upstairs as it is downstairs.

Is the google system really as easy as buying the google nest router and an extra point and two and plug it in and it's working?

Pretty much. There’s an app that sets things up.
