What precedent are you referring to? This article says it's a lot more complicated that that:

This article suggests that, if impeachment doesn't happen, the safest way to proceed is for Congress to pass a law, signed by President Biden, to authorize a civil action enjoining insurrectionists from holding office. If this route were taken, whether Trump was barred would probably have to wait until he announced he was running again (or some other time when it became evident he was going to do so) and the ultimate decision as to whether he was barred would be made in the court system.

It's certainly is interesting how the lady doth protest too much remains true and relevant.

The same people who constantly claim "patriotism" hate American democracy. The same people who scream about law and order and blue lives mattering don't care that a policeman was murdered. It's the exact same as the one's who were vehemently against same sex marriage turning out to be gay. They're all hypocritical liars who don't care about anything except satisfying their delusional false reality.

Trump filed for re-election in early 2017, shortly after inauguration. Thus, he was able to collect campaign contributions throughout his presidency. If he did so again, the issue would be "ripe."

Also, the 14th amendment could be invoked to remove Hawley, Cruz et al from Congress.
