Official Election Month Thread: COUP falls short, nothing to see here

This country is leaning far more towards populism and identity politics than "left or right"

Andrea Mitchell asks...”is something wrong with us...or our politics”...that Trump is seriously contending in this election after [everything].

Yes. Yes, there is, Andrea.

Is there any risk of Arizona or Nevada flipping back to Trump? I haven't heard any updates really today as the media is only focused on the great lake states. Biden has it at 270 with everything now, but not sure what the risk of Arizona and Nevada are.

Biden has already closed the gap in PA to under 500K.

- Ending slavery
- Giving minorities and women the right to vote
- Pulling America out of every recession and depression caused by austerity policies from conservatives
- Social Security
- Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act
- Ending segregation
- Broadening access to health care for low-income Americans

All of these liberal policies. All of these opposed vehemently by conservatives.

Stop; you're embarrassing yourself.

So typical. "Our side has done all the great things accomplished in America and you've done nothing"

I won't even dignify that question with a response.

Typical and disingenuous. He did not say my side does everything and yours does nothing. He asked for one accomplishment. You punted.

Speaking of one side doinging nothing for the American people, name one piece of legislation that mcconell has allowed to come up for a vote. Tax cuts for wealthy? Yep. Partisan, unqualified judges? Lots of those.

Democrats really need someone who can effectively champion good policy and convince folks it’s not some mad rush to “communism” or government “takeover”.

Of those mentioned, see Buttigieg as probably having the best skill in this.

The problem is a lot of people that voted for Trump don't hear the Dem policy positions from the Democrats. They hear them from Fox News or from social media (e.g. Facebook memes) or some other conduit for disinformation.

This is a good post. The "left" is populism and BIPOC and women's identity politics and perhaps youth issues. The "right" is fake populism to fuel corporatism, nationalism, and white/Evangelical identity politics.

So, at the end of the day, it looks like Biden will win the popular vote by in the range of 5% including all of the mail in ballot and other voter suppression shenanigans from the GOP. Under a normal electoral college popular vote split, that spread would be a resounding mandate. The Dems have such a natural disadvantage including two wings of the electorate that can't seem to come together at all.

What typical bull shit.

If anything I hope that Dems/Libs get out of this election is that even with a shit head like Donald Trump, there are millions of Americans with varied opinions who just don't get in line and vote how you want them to.

1. Millions want the Country to open up and not shut down.

2. The Economy is and will continue to be the major issue facing Americans. 100 million Americans are vested in the Markets, etc. and it matters.

3. Millions are concerned with the Country leaning away from center and toward the left.

4. And like it or not, The Republican Party is far from dead but alive and breathing.

Fuck this bullshit.

The entire message is "Democrats are socialists out to destroy America and your way of life. Immigrants will steal your jobs and rape your women! Brown people in public housing will make your community unsafe! America will burn! The media won't tell the truth!"

It's all lies that Trumpers have been conditioned to believe without question. That's why when Trump spews his constant bullshit, it's accepted as Truth.

are you going to offer any evidence that the progressives failed to show up and vote for Democrats?

Just a reminder that "identity politics" is a term far removed from the Combahee River Collective's original purpose to build political coalitions by sharing the "commonality of [marginalized] experiences."
