Biden actual cabinet and political appointee thread

Pete is really no less qualified for UN Ambassador than Nicki Haley was. Neither really has a ton of national security experience, though Pete was an intelligence officer in the military. The biggest part of the job is communicating the President's message on the world stage among other diplomats and country officials. Pete is great at communication, he speaks multiple languages, he is very intelligent, so I feel like he would be perfectly qualified for that job. It isn't like he is being put up for Sec. State or Sec. Defense.

Haley dealt with a lot of international stuff as SC Governor, stuff that a local mayor doesn't get exposed to. She also led a state of 5 million people, rather than a glorified college town with a declining population.

while I agree that Pete might not have the traditional resume for the job, he is a smart guy and would be able to do fine. It would be a nice resume builder for him.

Oh yes all the wheeling and dealing that the governor of the mighty state of South Carolina does with other nations.

Biff don't mistake this for a compliment - you could become the governor of SC tomorrow and be just as effective as Nikki Haley was

SC does provide a lot of cheap right to work labor for other countries.

Pete should jump at UN Ambassador but it comes off as a naked political favor given that there are career State Department types who have the requisite experience.

I agree with you here that there probably are other career State and Defense officials that probably have more credentials for this type of job, but the Democrats also have to think about building bench strength and Pete is a future player. Allowing him to get foreign policy experience in a role like this that is influential but doesn't bog in down in day to day Washington politics puts him a position to be a candidate for Kamala's VP in either 4 or 8 years.

Let me know when your boy Roy Cooper lands a Volvo plant.

The UN Ambassadorship is like Department Secretary positions - they don’t go to career bureaucrats.

I like to suggest that comparing the qualifications of Trump’s nominees and cabinet member to Biden’s is a worthless exercise. We should expect everything about Biden’s administration to be far better.

She gave away $150-200M upfront in potential state tax income proceeds in exchange for 1500 jobs. There are currently over 600K people unemployed in SC.

She's definitely contributed to America's race to the bottom.

Biden cabinet speculation thread

Giving money to wealthy corporations in hopes that they’ll hire people is one of the dumber things governments do.

Give the money back to the taxpayers to help them start their own businesses. Even $5000, $10000 could transform someone’s life, create jobs in the local community, and boost the local economy. The value of the labor will stay in the community.

Are you saying she could have opened 3k new jobs for 66k per year instead? Ludicrous! #LlamaLlamaRedPajama

NC was chosen by a vehicle manufacturer for a new plant several years ago, but the Republican legislature dragged their heels.

I wonder if that was the one where the legislature wanted to force the manufacturer to build the plant in a rural county instead of one of NC's urban areas. I believe there was a case like that a few years ago, and the company basically said no thanks. Of course, this is the same legislature that wrecked a thriving television and movie film industry in NC out of spite over Hollywood liberals being in our sacred state's borders, and anger that most (though not all) of the filming took place in NC's metro areas and not in the sticks.

Biden Fills Economic Posts With Experts on Systemic Racism

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...conomic-posts-with-experts-on-systemic-racism

“Observers say they’ve never seen expertise about race figure so prominently in economic roles.

“It’s an incredible signal to the Black community,” said Anna Gifty Opoku-Agyeman, co-founder of the Sadie Collective, a nonprofit working to get more Black women in economics. “This administration is going to be focused on thinking about: ‘How do we build up Black wealth? How do we close this racial wealth gap?’””

“Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris are emphasizing diversity as they prepare to assume power next year. Women comprise more than 50% of the new administration’s landing teams, according to the transition team, and more than 40% of advisers are from groups that are historically underrepresented in the federal government, like racial minorities, people with disabilities and those who identify as LGBTQ.”

This is Socialism.

Obviously every previous Secretary of the Interior has been the wrong person.

Seriously. I think one CARL SCHURZ would like a word...
