Jawja Specials

Of course I'm hoping for Ossoff and Warnock to pull through, but I'll believe when I see it. I just don't think the rifts within the GOP are going to hurt Republican turnout, as Republicans seem to vote no matter what, especially if saving America from socialism/communism/progressivism (and we all know they're the same) is at stake. Maybe Stacey Abrams and others can increase Dem turnout over most non-presidential elections in GA, but I remain skeptical.

The last 2 polls I've seen have Perdue and Loeffler up by 1-2 points. The betting odds have favored Perdue and Warnock, and I thought there would be a little ticket splitting with some folks voting Perdue/Warnock because Loeffler is bat shit crazy but not wanting Dems to get control of the senate. The polls suggest otherwise, and it's all going to be about gotv, and we'll see if Dems show the usual midterm low turnout and if Trumpublicans stay home with his name not on the ballot.

I mentioned this at the beginning of the thread. The Dems or Pubs will sweep both races. Nobody shows up to a special election to ticket split, particularly in 2020 where there are no undecideds.

Agree, but this race is so tight that 98% of the ballots could be either for both Dems or both Pubs, and the one out of fifty voter that splits his/her ballot (or votes in only one race) could decide it.

I agree.

And we don't know what could cause someone to split or just not vote in one race. Someone could decide not to vote for a woman so they go Perdue and Warnock. Someone could decide not to vote for Warnock or Loeffler and just Perdue. Somebody could not vote for Ossoff because he's Jewish, but vote for Warnock because he's a minister. Maybe someone heard about Perdue's corruption but not Loeffler's or vice versa. Who knows?

I don't see the race being that tight. I think both Loeffler and Perdue get 51%, give or take.

This election is ripe for split ticket voting. Ossoff is not a great candidate running against the less offensive Republican.

Loeffler is bat shit crazy running against the much better Dem candidate.

LOL. Give or take what? There’s not much to give. It’s a runoff.

Reports out that almost as many people have voted at this point as they did for the general.

My interpretation of "give or take" means that the final number might be 50.8% or 51.4% instead of exactly 51%.

FWIW (and it is a VERY small sample, but still) - I have a group of friends in Georgia that voted Jorgenson for President and Shane Hazel (Lib candidate) in the first Perdue-Ossoff battle. They've all gone out to vote early and they've all voted for Perdue.

Hazel got 2.3% of the vote in the first race (FWIW, Jo got 1.2%). If those voters show up and vote Perdue (I don't see many Libertarians going for someone as far left-wing as Ossoff, especially when it's a vote to determine if the country moves to the left), then I think Perdue wins.

Trump also announced that he's coming back to Georgia on January 4...that will help rally some of the Republicans that were thinking of staying home. If I were him, I'd be doing another five-city stop all over the state that day.

Perdue and Loeffler are both awful candidates (especially Loeffler, whose candidacy by all rights should be treated as a joke freak show), yet I will be very surprised if both don't win. The GOP has successfully painted both Warnock and Ossoff as far-left liberals who want to socialize America, Trump is campaigning for them again, and in the end I think that will be enough to drag both Perdue and Loeffler across the finish line. It sucks, but with few exceptions that's pretty much been the story of congressional elections since 2000.

I think it's all about turnout. I thought the betting markets were onto something early on by favoring Perdue and Warnock. With recent polls, I'm less convinced of that now. Now I'm leaning toward slightly favoring both Pubs. But if Dem, particularly African American, turnout is good, then the question is what is the turnout of those infrequently voting Trump lovers who show up for him but who are otherwise unreliable.

"Listen very carefully to what trump says. His words ALWAYS have another meaning."

Sailor and the col moving to Georgia to boycott the vote.

Phone banked for a couple hours this morning. If you have ever been curious about doing it, it’s really easy. The Georgia setup is better than a lot I’ve done before. I encourage you to give it a shot in the few days we have left.

Fox News has a hilarious headline on their website this morning - "DIRTY TRICKS: Georgia Democratic Senate candidates level wildly misleading claim against Republican in closing days." They're referring to Loeffler posing for a photo with a former KKK leader and both Democratic candidates saying that she's "campaigning with a Klansman." According to Fox Loeffler has denied knowing the former KKK leader and has condemned his beliefs, so all is well, and how dare those two wicked LibDems imply otherwise!

The reason I find it hilarious is that given all of the wildly inaccurate charges hurled by Trump and many, many other Republicans over the past four years at Democrats this accusation is rich. Hell, Loeffler and Perdue have been running false ads about Warnock and Ossoff for weeks with nary a word from Fox.

Would you expect otherwise? Still think this a gotv election, and it sounds like the Dems are doing pretty well. Also gotta wonder what kind of effect Trump is having there, supporting Loeffler and Purdue at the same time he's at war with Pub state officials.
