2022 races (and 2021 for weird commonwealths like Virginia)

My God, the Republican Party is so broken. Here's an actual "announcement" from the NC GOP regarding Jeff Jackson announcing his Senate candidacy:

"Cal Cunningham Jr. (Jeff Jackson) announced today that he intends to seek the Democrat nomination for U.S. Senate. Jackson clearly intends to utilize the Cal Cunningham campaign playbook of running on an inflated biography, avoid taking stances on any substantive issue and ignore his own record of failing to accomplish anything notable as a public servant. The only significant difference between Jackson and Cunningham is that Jackson is younger and is a seasoned Twitter troll. This is why the North Carolina Republican Party will continue to refer to Jackson as Cal Jr."

“Cal Cunningham Jr. (Jeff Jackson) would be a disaster for North Carolina if elected to the United States Senate,” said NCGOP Press Secretary Tim Wigginton. “Jackson is an unaccomplished Twitter troll with no significant legislative accomplishments. North Carolina needs leaders who get results and Cal Jr. believes success equals retweets.”

"Cal Jr.'s entrance into the Democrat Senate primary sets up a potential repeat of the 2020 Democrat US Senate Primary. Radical Liberal Erica Smith has already announced her candidacy for US Senate. Smith was on the track to secure the Democrat nomination in 2020 until establishment Democrats and out of state liberal groups swooped in and spent millions of dollars to boost Cal Cunningham’s flawed candidacy. It will be interesting to see if these DC establishment groups, like the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, will commit to an open primary or will sabotage a qualified African American candidate for the second time in two years."

So they're going to refer to Jackson as Cal Cunningham, Jr. through 2022? That sounds like a bad Angus troll job. And LOL at a party that supports Madison Cawthorne knocking anybody for having an "inflated resume", having done nothing substantive, and being a troll. Way to go, NC GOP!

^^ yeah that's the bad take of people who know they're fucked. C- creative writing.

I've been in CLT awhile and a Jackson fanboy almost immediately. Been to several of his talks, town halls, whatevers. Dude's the real deal.

Was legit heartbroken this cycle when he was no longer my rep. His local coattails are already solid AF though.

Wait so out of state liberal groups sabotaged the candidacy of a radical liberal leading to a more centrist candidate getting the nomination, and the NC GOP thinks that’s a bad thing?

Radical liberal Erica Smith… who endorsed a Republican.

Erica Smith is from a rural area with no financing behind her and no statewide reach. And she's also a little nutty. She went to Ph's high school though, so she's got that going for her.

She’s both radical and qualified.

But Junebug says it was wrong for AOC to call out Cruz for supporting the deadly coup.

Beto is considering running for Governor. People here seem to hate Beto but he’s been doing work in Texas after his 2018 loss and his numbers are favorable.

2018 Sen - Cruz 50.9%, Beto 48.3%
2018 Gov - Abbott 55.8%, Valdez 42.5%
2020 Sen - Cornyn 53.5%, Hegar 43.9%
2020 Pres - Trump 52.1%, Biden 46.5%

Davis has been tweeting a lot this week about how the DNC gave him no support in the case vs the RNC for Cawthorn. Said he would consider running again if the party would commit more resources.

As much as the Dems complain about MTG they completely ceded the race. Guy dropped out before Election Day.

He was still on the ballot and did better than the 2018 Dem did with about 25%.

GA-14 had no D candidate in ‘14 or ‘16 and is close to R +30. I question why any D would bother putting time and money into a campaign.

If I remember correctly I believe that is one of the most heavily Republican parts of Georgia now - the GA GOP was counting on that district to help counter the Democratic vote in and around Atlanta in the two GA runoff Senate elections. It did vote overwhelmingly GOP but turnout was down in the district. A Democrat has about as much chance of winning that district as they do of beating Virginia Foxx in her NC district.
