A college degree is a lousy investment

But what specifically would you be afraid a liberal professor would teach?
Fear of just the lack of an impartial view?

Very basic topic but if an econ teacher has spent their life criticizing trickle down economics, I'd imagine someone might be concerned their not being taught both sides of the argument.

Just like if a professor was heavily involved in Trump's political campaign and on his staff, five years from now when the professor is back teaching I'd imagine you could be concerned you're not getting an unbiased view of recent/current events.

I think it's safe to say bias among teachers is common and even inevitable, but that doesn't mean they can't be a good teacher. But I'm also not trying to argue any side here just saying I can definitely see why people may believe some subjects can be political (and taught differently based off professor).

So for fear of impartiality, people should take two Intro classes in a subject so they’ll get “both” sides?

I find is funny that you note that you’re not taking a side but you can argue a point you don’t believe in. You’re doing that to argue the point of someone who believes professors are incapable doing the same.

Basically what you’re doing is what professors do.

The criticisms we see here are rooted in an anti-intellectual argument that people are incapable of explaining things they don’t believe in themselves.

A Econ professor who doesn’t criticize trickle down economics in his classroom should be fired.

This is timely:

Conservative students don't feel like their ideas are welcome on campus. So they're fighting back. We go to Nebraska, where one skirmish spins out of control. My Effing First Amendment

This kind of answers my other question, if the situation was the opposite, where there were almost all conservative professors and little to no liberal professors, would you tolerate it? It does not sound like it. It is too bad that a great, diverse school like Wake can not hire (or perhaps tolerate?) collection of professors having a diversity of opinion.

His point was that we’ve been specifically practicing what’s know as “trickle down economics” for almost 40 years and income inequality and wealth inequality has grown significantly.

I wouldn’t tolerate anyone professor who teaches outdated, ineffective, disproven theories. Would you?

Clearly we don’t teach communism. Nobody actually knows what it is.

I'm not sure if I've posed this question here before (or on any other thread). Just a little something for us olds and micro-olds.

Are your friends from Wake generally more conservatives, more liberal, or about the same politically as they were in college?

When is the last time you saw or heard a US citizen give accurate definition of communist or communism in casual conversation?

Granted, the number of people who know what communism is has been somewhat reduced by the murder of around a hundred million people - the exact number is in fact unknown - by communist enthusiasts. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of people around, who both know and have experienced communism. Pray you never experience it.

As far as America is conconcerned, there are lots of people there, who know what communism is, despite the best efforts of the professoriate and lefty pseudointellectuals to dissemble about communism and socialism.

by all means, tell us what Communism is

the subject is lengthy but you can get started with these:

you can start by reading Marx, Lenin, Stalin and Mao

follow that up with Trotsky and Rosa Luxemburg

then you can turn to Solzhenitsyn, Arthur Koestler, Stephane Courtois

Bulgakov and Pasternak provide great literary treatments

when you are done you can get started with some secondary literature on histories of the USSR, the People's Republic of China, various countries of eastern Europe

you know what the saddest part is, I don't think most of our posters have read anything from these

as an educator, i'd like you explain it since it's simple and apparently self-evident

one or two sentences will probably suffice

It’s nice when the crazy, dumb as fuck, politics posters surface from the dark to spread their clear coherent thoughts for all of us to enjoy.

Seems like most have moved closer to the center-left/Clinton area. That includes people who were much farther left in college, and people who were conservative in college.

Most (and I'm including law school friends) seem to have moved left to some degree. At least one took a hard right turn and it is a little puzzling to me.
