My favorite albums of 2020

After Hours from The Weekend was a good album. Sturgill’s bluegrass album was probably my fave listen this year.

I’m surprised with the Tame Impala inclusion. I found that album pretty lackluster.
Sturgills bluegrass album is an absolute banger.

Chris Stapleton’s new album is also a one way ticket to slap city.

Really enjoying the new Stapleton album also. There was a good article on The Ringer recently about him making the album. I’ll admit to shedding a few tears the first time I listened to the track “Maggie’s Song”.

I like Traditional Techniques, birdman!

things i enjoyed this year in rough order:

1. Bonny Light Horseman - Bonny Light Horseman
2. Tre Burt - Caught it from the Rye
3. Bessie Jones - Get in Union (old recordings, new compilation/remaster)
4. John Moreland - LP5 (wish this was as good as his last one)
5. Medhane - Cold Water
6. Jeff Parker - Suite for Max Brown
7. Possessed by Paul James - As We Go Wandering

this just isn't the same without the tags

tag: take it to the pretentious thread

but seriously every year I end up listening to someone I have never heard of as a result of your efforts so that's a good thing, even if I end up feeling really old

The Future Islands album is great too. Mdmh is right. Put it on your list Townie. Put it on your list.

Disagree. Their best album in over a decade.

This was a response to RedSox about the Strokes album.

The annual "Who the fuck are these bands?" thread. It makes me feel really, really old, and yet I think Townie is around my age.

I'll add a few more releases that nobody has heard of.

Bastards of Soul - Spinnin' (local boys with a stellar old school R&B release)
Loveblind - Sleeping Visions (shoegaze mixed with some occasional dance beats with the old Seasurfer vocalist who sounds like Siouxsie)

This is probably the wrong thread to confess that my most played track last year was Instant Crush

I don't really understand the "I feel old" sentiment re: bands you don't know

what is it about youth that makes accessing these bands any easier in the Internet era?

Yeah, Honestly I just check pitchforks highest rated new releases every few weeks and listen to a few tracks, otherwise I’d still be listening to the same shit I downloaded to my ipod in college.

I look at NPR streams, Bandcamp album of the week, Aquarium Drunkard, and follow some music folks on twitter. I've aged out of a lot of P4K recommendations, I'm afraid.

My top 5 for 2020

Bohemian Breakfast- Wait a minute, wait a second
Final Girl Forever- I can't take it anymore
New is Old again- Punch that motherfucker
Nasty Earl and the Oil Cans- Mississippi Mud
Cliff Dive- Around the bend and back again

My reference to age was more about the feeling that I don't really have a desire to seek out new music like I did in my teens and early 20's. I have bands that I like I just tend to stick with them. I am sure it's a lot easier to find new music than it was 25 years ago, but I just don't feel like it.
