2021 Wake Forest Football Season

The transfer rule is a rich get richer rule. Protecting the NCAAs best programs during a pandemic. Had a feeling we’d take a big hit this year with transfers

Hopefully we use it to try and steal MAC and Sun Belt players. I doubt KWIII's first contact with MSU was when he entered the portal. You would think there are some guys who qualify academically, who want the chance to play ACC football.

Not to sound too “well we didn’t want him anyway” as Claw always had high praise of Hourigan.

But could it be that Clawson puts some of our injury issues on Hourigan and wanted to switch it up, thus a mutual departure? I have wondered about what we are doing in our weight program that may contribute all our injuries.
Wondered the same thing about Horn under Manning and the Achilles injuries.

If this was the case, you wouldn't have seen the outcry of support for Hourigan from current and former players.

Also: Clawson works with Hourigan for 3 years at Richmond, 3 at BG, 7 at Wake Forest ... and *then* arrives at the conclusion that he's the problem?

the joke's on Vandy because all the players Hourigan makes stronger are just going to transfer out anyway

All the more reason for us to support Forbes and the basketball program. Football is dissolving. Wake cannot sustain a high quality football program in the Power 5. But there is no excuse for the bad basketball program. A small 5,000 student school like Wake can have a string of conference titles, a final four and even a natty in basketball if you get the right rhythm going.

Clawson also ditched Scheier who was with him for 6 years.

I don't necessarily think this happened but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Clawson seemed dumbfounded about the injuries versus UNC. While that may fall on the med staff, after digging, he may have concluded that some changes needed to be made in the S&C. Hourigan may not have liked those changes combined with Lea offering more money. It then became a mutual departure.

You're a lot warmer here.

Again: If there was a feeling that Hourigan was a problem within the program, you wouldn't have seen the outpouring of support from current and former players.

Thought maybe we'd bring back Manning's S&C coach to do football, he'd have been something on a football sideline.

Would do you hire to be the hold back coach for the S&C guy?

TV for the first four games has been announced.

ODU - Friday, Sept 3 at 7:00 on ACCN
Norfolk State - Saturday, Sept 11 at noon on ACCN Extra (ESPN app)
FSU - Saturday, Sept 18 at 3:30 on ABC or ESPN
at UVa - Friday, Sept 24 at 7:00 on ESPN2

Seems like it's been awhile since we've played on ESPN2.

Looked it up. Our last ESPN2 game was in 2018 vs. FSU.

Florida State opens the season hosting Notre Dame on Sunday September 5. That game will provide clues on whether Norvell has regained control of the Nole program; they were a disaster last year. UVA plays at UNC the week before the Friday night WF game. UVA lost some solid talent on D, and UNC is a max effort divisional game. Also, UVA plays at Miami on Thursday the week after facing WF (so, UVA has back to back games with only 6 days to prepare for each; all against challenging opponents; kind of a screw job by the ACC). Deacs need to start no worse than 3-1, and 4-0 is a solid possibility.

Are the divisions back this year?

Yes. Back to the normal division with no ND in the conference mix.

That 9/11 game at noon will be a scorcher. Would have been nice if that could have at least been a late afternoon kick.

Based on our last two bowl performances, where do you think Wake would finish in the B1G ? Last or dead last ?

Lulz. I think that Clawson is doing a pretty good job but the wins just aren't really there over the course of seven seasons. 8-5 just feels like the high water mark.
