Impeachment: The Sequel

Give Republicans any time whatsoever and they'll organize a defense and move to obstruct anything. At this point it seems clear that no more than a handful are going to vote to convict, and I'm sure they're already lining up their talking points for the trial. Given that conservatives don't want government to work (at least for anyone that's not them) they'll gladly filibuster and hold up everything Biden and the Democrats want in the Senate, and stall to regain control of both Houses of Congress in 2022. And they've got a good chance of doing so, especially in the House. OTOH, by letting him off the hook they're also giving Trump a new lease on life. I hope that Rubio, Hawley, Cruz, Rand Paul, and all of these other fools are happy when they announce for the GOP nomination in 2024 and get beaten by Trump yet again - when by voting to convict they could likely have stopped him now.

Perhaps Trump will seek to have this trial enjoined by the federal courts, which may at least limit their ability to hide behind this argument. Not that it’ll slow them down much.

Yep.

Imagine choosing even now to support Trump and risk his continued dominance of your party.

Because...party is more important than country. Not to mention honesty, honor, integrity, decency, etc.

Great. If Republicans tie themselves even closer to Trump with witnesses under oath, that’s great.

Nothing is going to get done in the Senate because of Republicans anyway. Hell, threaten to keep the trial going until Republicans agree on a new COVID bill.

Several of those arrested for violence at the Capitol have said the would testify to the Senate that they believe Trump had been telling them to act for weeks before January 6.

The House managers should call them to testify. Let the nation see them.

That's a good idea. Just keep bringing in embarrassing witnesses and tying all of these GOP Senators and Congresspeople to the 1/6 insurrection. I'm sure people like Graham and Hawley and Cruz will scream bloody murder, but just ignore it and keep bringing in more witnesses. Maybe - just maybe - it will get bad enough and public pressure will rise enough that they'll agree to start passing some legislation and getting some things done. Unfortunately, I'm sure such an agreement will come at the price of ending the trial as soon as possible.

Literally all elected Republicans are bad people and we’re nearly to point where we can say just about all people who voted for them are bad people so doubt much will change. You can at least say that anyone who voted for a Republican in the House is a bad person since they’ve all been up for re-election twice since Trump took office.

Romney might be ok

This is exactly the kind of sick "thinking" that led to the Holocaust and the GULAG. And yes, just like you, those who think this way are all convinced that they are right. But they were not and are not.

Lol no. This is the kind of thinking that led to the Nuremberg trials you nazi troll.
