Wake Baseball 2021 | Cusick (1st) + Fleming, Seymour, Menendez, Muntz Drafted

Yeah, yeah, the sky is falling

Wake fans need to toughen up.

Don’t know who needs to hear this, but teams don’t win 100% of their OOC games in college baseball. Just over this past weekend, for example, UVA dropped a game to UConn, WVU lost to Ga State, LSU lost to Air Force, TAMU lost to Xavier, Arizona lost to Ball State, Georgia lost to Evansville, UCLA lost to San Francisco. Need to take care of business Tuesday against Coastal and that would be a fine and expected start to the season. Also clearly need Menendez back for that Saturday starting spot.

Yeah getting Menendez back will be huge for this team. Need our weekend starters to stay healthy. If that can happen, and we sure up some basic fielding, this team can be very good.

I'd argue it's equally, maybe more important to get Turconi back at short and Tinsman behind the plate. Tough to win college games when you're giving up a ton of extra bases on passed balls/errors/dropped third strikes.

Agreed, should have added that. The left side of the infield is a liability, to put it nicely. Those errors led to Shane Smith being rocked early on in the game (and walks). And yeah Muntz clearly isn’t an everyday option behind the plate. Need those 3 back and this would be an extremely complete team.

Yeah, for as good as Wilken has been at the plate Friday and today, 2 errors today hurt. Since he's likely going to be there all season, that's gotta improve. He had a few nice plays Friday, IIRC.

I wouldn't freak out about freshmen shortstops making errors. Especially because Turconi sounds really close to being back in the field.

Now, if you (not you specifically, 22, but in general) want to be critical, Muntz as your No. 2 catching option seems problematic. Maybe he looked great there in the fall and for the last month, but nothing from the last couple of years should have given the coaches confidence in him for three games.

Agreed. Northeastern is a decent/scrappy team. The thing that pisses me off the most is that Wake scored 11 runs today and STILL lost. Had it been 5-2 or something of that type of game I suppose I wouldn't be as alarmed. 11 runs and still lost????? Need to shore up that D and get some guys back.

This. Chill the fuck out guys.

Deacs play Coastal Carolina today at 4 pm. Coastal started the season winning 1 of 3 against Duke. Coastal lost the rubber game 10-9 on Sunday.

The starter for the Deacs is frosh Rhett Lowder. Along with the DeGrom-like flow, he had an electric appearance against Northeastern on Saturday. 1 IP 3Ks.

This will be the most telling game of the season so far IMO. The number of recent seasons that have been wasted solely by mid-week losses is baffling.

Lowder placing it exactly where he wants, and he’s throwing the perfect mix of pitches. Coastal looks totally lost.

Alright, time for the Wake offense to enter the fold.

Baseball is a so unpredictable. Coastal started who they considered their best 3 pitchers against Duke this past weekend and gave 30 runs in 3 games. Coastal plans a bullpenning game today, and their starter holds a potent WF lineup scoreless into the 5th inning on a perfect hitting day. Comfortable with the wind blowing out.

Not a game Walter needs to try out so many pitchers just to get experience. This is a game where we really needed a good win. This pitcher that came in the ninth inning has totally blown up. Left with bases loaded and no outs.

Amazing! Got out of the inning with no runs! 1 throw home by Bobby @ 1st for an out and a fly out to right with a throw to home to keep runner on 3rd. KO for 3rd out!

They were hoping Mcgraw would be the closer. Adler saved our bacon.
