1-7 Fordham fired their coach, Jeff Neubauer, today. Fordham is a college basketball coaches' graveyard; their last 4 basketball coaches were fired and never head coached in college basketball again, including former NC State player Derek Whittenburg. The Rams have not made any post-season basketball tournament in 29 years; they have won one NCAA basketball game in the school's history. Fordham has finished DFL in the Atlantic 10 (there are 14 teams) each of the last 4 years, which is saying something as their have been some bad teams in that league over recent years.

Long way to go in this season but there's a lot of chatter in the Hoosier state about whether Archie Miller survives if he doesn't make the tournament. He missed it the first two years, was likely in as a double digit seed last year before the cancellation, and has his team 9-7 this year. On top of that Miller is now 0-6 against Purdue.

Well at least State can finally make their dreams of Archie Miller come true.

Ouch

Unlike Archie, Matt Painter knows what he is doing. Purdue rarely recruits on the highest level; yet, the Boilers have made the NCAA Tournament the last 5 times one was played, and have reached the Sweet 16 or better their last 3 appearances. Purdue's freshman class was ranked #34 in the country and #6 in the Big 10; even so. they have 3 freshman in their rotation and are beating teams that allegedly have more talent. Always solid in West Lafayette.

Scott Spinelli named interim coach. Anybody have any insight as to whether he is being evaluated for the job or simply a place holder?

He's always seemed to just be a recruiter. Doubt a first-year AD wants to hire an assistant of the coach he shit-canned with 3 weeks left in a pandemic season.

What is the point of firing Jim Christian with 3 weeks left in the season?

Unless there's something scandalous going on or a player revolt (which i doubt), let Christian finish the slate before cleaning house. Its not like the University has thrown all its resources behind the hoop program as BC basketball isn't even the #1 Winter Sport on campus (hockey is). Also, outside of WF, no program has been harder hit by COVID; they actually hung with Cuse in the Dome on Saturday. Not saying Christian should be retained after the season, but let him coach his players to the end of the season.

I think the scandal is that he wasn't afraid to call out his administration after they basically told him to shut the F up and play a game with 4 scholarship guys (FSU subsequently cancelled):

"Our administration made the decision that the game needs to be played," Christian said Monday morning. "They know how I feel about it, but once that decision is made, my job is to get these guys ready. To let you know, we've spent the last two days trying to teach five guys our basic defense and offense so we could play Florida State on Tuesday night. [School administrators] know my opinion. It's not easy to do. It's a tough situation. I don't think anybody in the country has attempted to do that."

Yeah, it's all about the criticism but they also get to save a few hundred grand that can fund a non revenue sport for half a season or so.

Not sure how this computes. BC has to owe Christian his buyout. So there won't be much savings unless he has the worst contract ever.

How would they save any money? He will get paid the rest of his salary for this either way. His buyout at the end of the season won't change. If the AD wants to cancel the rest of their games, it can be done with or without the HC.

Becker seems like a no brainer for them.

Would have been an ok selection for Wake too, but regional ties work much more in BC's favor + honestly, despite it all, Wake is pretty clearly a better job than BC (by a lot really).

Word out of Columbia is that Frank Martin will not get a contract extension. Where things go from here are unsure, as Martin's contract doesn't expire until 22-23. However as anyone with a brain knows its hard to recruit if you're not gonna be around.

The buyout is 8-9 mil but word is Frank would be open to settling. The dude has had covid, lost most all his hair, and just looks worn out. SC has made him rich but he really hasn't returned the favor with one tourney appearance in 9 years. Granted it was a Final Four but he couldn't use it to advance the program and now its back where it usually is (the shitter).

72 year old Leonard Hamilton agreed to a 5-year contract extension.

His previous contract originally expired last year but continued at the same rate on a month-by-month basis until the extension was agreed to per documents obtained by USA Today.

Hamilton's annual salary of $2.25 million remains the same as it was previously on this new deal. It also remains an extremely bonus-laden deal with potential incentive bonuses of up to $2.675 million. That's one of the largest potential bonuses in the country with the chance to more than double his annual income.

FSU hired Hamilton at 53 years old after 4 seasons at OK State, 10 seasons at Miami and one season with the Wizards. Next year will be his 20th at FSU.
