Wake Golf 2024 - WF Women Struggling In Moon Golf Invitational

We just edged Duke in match play to win the women's big 4 champion. That could be a national title match preview.

3 Current WF golfers and 1 2021 Commit are teeing it up in Augusta today.

- Rachel Kuehn
- Emilia Migliaccio
- Siyun Liu
- Carolina Lopez-Chacarra (commit for next season)

Awesome opportunity for the WF golf program.

Lady Deac Emilia Migliaccio made the cut (top 30) and advanced to play at Augusta National. Congrats!

Rachel Kuenhn missed the playoff by one shot.

Tied for 10th after 2 rounds, 4 off the lead.
Good news for the team if she is playing better--has not been playing her best golf in the past couple of tournaments.

Men playing again this week end coming off of a poor effort last time out. No one played very well. Really need for Eric Bae to get back to where he was a couple of years ago before he hurt his wrist, but that doesn't seem likely.

Interesting bit about Migs choosing not to play professional golf post-WF on the broadcast. Said she is going to retain amateur status and continue competing in amateur events. First I had heard of that. She could end up playing in the ANWA a bunch of times.

migs likely to be in a playoff. hopefully just with one other person. pretty nuts

Unless someone from this last group holes out from the fairway, we are headed for a playoff here.

Migs going to a playoff. Great drama the past hour.
Wake getting tons of coverage.

That playoff hole was painful.
Still, she did great to come in second.

Palmer hit a similar second shot in 1961. Norman did much worse in 1986. It happens. Then she was in jail with no shot. She made a good bogey and gave a great interview.

Can't go Norman-Mahan in a sudden death playoff and win.

I watched the broadcast of the final round of the ‘86 Masters the other day, and she did exactly what Norman did with his approach on 18. Tough to go out there having finished over an hour before and get right back in a groove. Would have been nice if either of the birdie putts on 15 or 17 had gone down—both looked really good the entire way.

Congrats to Emilia. She has struggled in just about every collegiate event this year. If she can carry this momentum into the season, combined with Kuehn, Walsh, and Liu, they have to be one of favorites to win it all.

Norman blocked it much worse. It was in the crowd, 10-15 yards from the trap. It was closer to being like Palmer’s shot in 1961. Emily had hit pure iron shots all day, so I’m not sure what happened there. She hits a draw- maybe a push draw- but she didn’t release at all on that shot. It was amazing that every golfer other than the winner took the gas on the back 9, and even she doubled 17 from 150 yards out.

ETA: Emily obviously didn’t take the gas on the back 9 either. The bogey on 13 was brutal, but it didn’t cost her that much because of how poorly most everyone else played the hole.
