Wake Golf 2024 - WF Women Struggling In Moon Golf Invitational

I think it's always important to remind wake fans that only one team can win each NCAA competition.

7 shot lead for the regional title. so if we win the acc, regional and national titles, would that be a good year?

Absolutely. Guessing that this team's achievements will be downplayed if WF doesn't play well in the NCAA Championship too.

so from the ACC, #17 nationally ranked WF will advance along with #5 UNC from New Haven. Also in New Haven, #27 NC State has imploded and will not advance. Unranked UVA is currently in 6th with work to do

Other ACC schools in regional action

#11 GT will advance out of Columbus
#22 FSU is in Palm Beach and will advance, currently #2 in the region

#15 Notre Dame is in Palm Beach and currently in trouble, 8 strokes off the cut line
#23 Clemson is in Columbus and currently in trouble, 3 strokes out
#36 Louisville is in Norman and currently in trouble, 6 strokes out
#41 Duke is in Columbus and currently in trouble, 4 strokes out

how do they determine who goes to what regional? for example, Georgia Southern is here, but not with Ga Tech. You've got 4 NC teams in our regional but no Duke. North Florida and UCF are here but not Palm Beach.

If you host, you automatically play in your own regional. Then they assign the top six seeds as a top-seed in each regional, and try to balance things from there. For a western regional, it will have mostly midwest/west teams, but they'll send a handful of teams east of the Mississippi out there as well. Same thing with east coast regionals (try to mix in some midwest and west coast teams as well). It's pretty much how they do the NCAA Tournament bracket.

Seeding is the most important criteria. There are 6 regionals, and the top 6 teams are in different regionals. After that, they try to spread out the seeds between the regionals while trying to keep geography in mind (#1 Oklahoma nd #7 Texas are both in the Norman regional). Also, a host school that qualifies will play in its own regional.

Current OK State, and former Deac golfer (also the brother of current Lady Deac golfer) Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra is going to win the individual title at the Columbus regional. IIRC, he played in the PGA Wells Fargo event two weeks ago.

Fitz 1 off the lead and he's on 18 (par 5)

According to golfstat, Fitz is tied with UNC's Ryan Gerard for the lead (along with UNC's Austin Greaser, who's finished), and they are tied for the individual title at -9. Par 5 18th will decide it.

looks like Greaser won the individual title

but an impressive, dominating performance by the Deacs. Fitz, Brennan, Kennon, Power all currently top 10.

UNC is ranked 5th in the country; yet, the #17 Deacs have knocked off the Heels in the last two tourneys. Let's do it again in the desert.

Because they have advanced out regionals for 13 straight seasons.

Bad final two days for Illinois means their national championship appearance streak is snapped.

And Georgia Southern is doing all they can to hand the final spot to Virginia over the last few holes (UVA is finishing on the easier back side).

UVA must have collapsed on the final 2 holes. Went from T-5 at -6 to finishing at -2.

I'm glad to be wrong on this.

4 ACC Men's teams advance to the Championships:

WF
UNC
GT
FSU

The women's NCAA Championships starts this Friday. Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale hosts both the Men's and Women's Championship. 4 days of stroke play. Top 8 teams advance to match play. Golf Channel will provide coverage.

Did you see the poor kid who got DQ'd before they resumed his quarterfinal 4-ball match this morning because his separated putter grips were ruled "too close" by the USGA and thus deemed improper equipment? That must have been brutal news to receive at 7am this morning (good thing they were 1 down thru 17 and likely to lose anyway, as opposed to leading the match).
