Wake Golf 2024 - WF Women Struggling In Moon Golf Invitational

Ladies tied for the lead halfway through the 1st round

what happened to #1 seed South Carolina? In last place at +24?

I saw that. 3 of their players went +9, +11 and +15. Total meltdown. Maybe they were late arriving or has never played in the desert before.

Just checked the tee times for today. The Lady Deacs and several other teams start at 6:30! Not bad for the east coast teams, but this might be tough for Stanford.

This comment aged poorly.

Only 6 teams under par for the day so far, so I think Wake should be fine at +9.

Stanford Women are just throwing darts at this point. 18 stroke lead. Luckily for the rest of the field they have to win match play.

Lady Deans struggling a bit and setting themselves up to need a good day tomorrow to advance.

Same story we can't get any player to throw up a low number.

Need one of their top players to shoot a score in the sixties would really help

Going to be toasty in Scottsdale for the competing ladies. High 94, and our ladies are teeing off at noon.

Not sure if it's injury related or just a benching, but Venessa Knecht has replaced Mimi Rhoads in the lineup today. Rhoads shot 73-74-77 in her first 3 rounds. Knecht played in the Stanford regional and had one great round (75-68-74)

Lewellen had planned to rotate Knecht in at some point (seems the time to do it may have been before yesterday's round) - from the preview article:

"We're allowed to bring six players and you can sub out," Lewellen said. "We've never done it, so I feel like a rookie. Going out there in 100-degree weather with that much golf, there definitely could be some strategy at play here. We want to achieve our goal of making the top-eight but be able to sub some players to keep them fresh for match play. We want to be fresh and energized. We have many scenarios going on in our mind. It'll be new for everybody.

"We have six great players. We used Vanessa last week, and she played great for us. She's coming back from injury, and we put her straight in at regionals and she did well. We need reps for her, because she will be with us as part of the six going out there. We'll see how we end up subbing and how that plays out, just like it will be interesting to see how other teams handle that."

Hydration is essential. The desert will rob you of fluids fast and playing catch up is not an option.

UofSC golfer starts her round (quadruple bogey)-par-birdie-ace

I think she has to now walk off the course

Looking like this is going to be a sweat. LSU has jumped up from 9th to a tie for 6th with the Deacs and Arizona. FSU and Arizona State have fallen back; even so, WF only has a two shot lead over 9th place. So far, the Deacs have played 19 holes and have one birdie. Need to post more red numbers...

Pretty much 12 teams for 8 spots at this point hard to see South Carolina or anybody behind them getting into the top 8
