He was an Olympic gold medalist and pulled one of the biggest upsets in heavyweight history in beating Ali for the world championship.

His brother Michael was also a world champion boxer as was Leon's son Cory.

Leon had a great smile. Michael was the real deal, but he never should have stepped up to heavyweight. He is lucky Tyson didn't kill him.
 
I remember the night he beat Ali. What a shocker. Almost exactly 43 years ago.

Remember cheering like hell for the Spinks brothers in the ‘76 Olympics.

And his son Cory was a middleweight champ who beat the likes of Zab Judah and Ricardo Mayorga.
