2021 MLB Season Thread

Not sure whom I hate most, The Cards or the Dodgers, but it feels okay that the Dodgers won.
Hell of a game.

Edit: Thank God there's no fucking ghost-runner in the post-season.

Yeah, that rule needs to die. Also, it's a misuse of the term "ghost runner", which was a different horrible rule in kids pickup sports. (The old man in me liked the term "Manfred Man").

p crazy the 106 win Dodgers have to win a one-game wild card playoff

I honestly like it this way, especially with the unbalanced schedule (since it makes those extra division games more meaningful, and does not lengthen the playoffs that much). People were complaining for years in the wild card era that they missed the 1993 NL west race, where two excellent 100-win teams had to fight it out in the regular season to decide who got into the playoffs at all.

I'm with you on getting rid of the runner starting on second base garbage. Also, get rid of the three batters/finish the inning rule for pitchers.

If the want to speed up the game, adopt the 15 seconds per pitch rule being used in some minor leagues. If the pitch isn't thrown in 15 seconds, automatic ball. If batter isn't ready, automatic strike. That will eliminate the 57 varieties of uniform adjustments between pitches.

I was waiting for another Cardinal to pull an Ozzie Smith moment from the 80's but thankfully the reverse happened and Chris Taylor won it for LA.

Interesting how the public and the line makers refuse to believe in the Giants. They have home field, the Giants finished ahead of the Dodgers, won the season series, and the Dodgers won't be able to use Scherzer to Game 3. Even so, Dodgers are -170 (63%) favorites against the Giants +145 (41%).

Last's nights game was over four hours in 3-1 game. I am fine with the finish the inning rule.

Diamond Deac Gavin Sheets is starting at 1B for the White Sox against the cheating Astros today. Jose Abreu is out with an non-COVID illness.

Arozarena steals home for the Rays in the 7th. What an amazing play made even better that it went down in October. Got my heart rate up a bit just watching.

It's been awhile since I've seen that at ANY time.

Well that was quite the ending. Think we'll see a rule change this off-season but they got it right.

Apparently a fielder should just knock the ball over the wall rather than field the ball and make a good throw to hold the runner at 3rd.

Seems if it was intentional it would be different, but not 100% clear based on the rule. Crazy that no one can remember that rule being called upon before.

It’s clear if the fielder “has complete possession” of the ball. If that’s the case, it’s 2 bases from location of runner at that time (instead of from time of pitch). “Complete possession” has room for interpretation, but I would imagine an intentional act of batting a ball out of play would be deemed complete possession.

There's a caveat for intentionally deflecting ball out of play. It's two from deflection just like a thrown ball from the outfield (possession).

First throw from infield is from start of play regardless of where the runners are, just like the accidental deflection.

Sadly, it appears this will be the pale hose last game of the season. Sheets hitting .400 in the series. Red Sox v White Sox would have been cool.

I dig the Dodgers middle reliever that’s just going for straight 80’s pornstar

Too bad that on one of the few days there’s no football… there’s no baseball
