2021 MLB Season Thread

The nomad Blue Jays will move their home games to Buffalo on June 1 (their AAA team also plays in Buffalo). They haven't played a home game in Toronto since September 2019. Crazy. Would think that the current Canadian embargo on US travel will be revised at some point this Summer upon proof of a vaccination.

Also, interesting/crazy story about Drew Robinson: a former MLB player, Robinson attempted suicide last April, and while he didn't succeed, Robinson lost an eye to a bullet. Fast forward to just over a year later, Robinson is now playing AAA for the SF Giants, and his first series is in his hometown, Las Vegas, in a stadium that is two miles away from where he shot himself. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/31393995/drew-robinson-makes-san-francisco-giants-triple-roster-losing-eye-2020-suicide-attempt

John Means of Baltimore threw a no hitter where the only baserunner reached on a 3rd strike wild pitch. That's a new one.

Sucky ending for him. I would assume the Cards resign him on 1 day contract-y thing so he can retire with them. Do the Cards do stuff like that?

That was quite the pitching show. One wild pitch away from a perfect game. Catcher gunned down the one base runner when he tried to steal second. So Means only faced 27 batters. Amazing.

Pos rep! As far as Albert goes, he was the best right-handed hitter I ever saw at keeping an inside pitch fair.

Miley with the 4th no hitter of the season, less than 1/5th of the way through the season. The modern record for no hitters in a season is 7, done most recently in 2015.

Edit: And now Mannea of Oakland has one thru 7.

Trolley-dodgers sign Pujols? I wonder who they're trying to piss off this time.

The Dodgers have been favored in 127 straight MLB games. According to those that set the lines, absent mass injuries, the Dodgers will likely to be favored in every game until August when they travel to NY, if DeGrom pitches in one of the games against the Dodgers.

The Diamondbacks lost their 22nd straight road game last night. This is hard to believe, but the D-Backs last road win was on April 25th when Madison Bumgarner no-hit the Braves as part of a double-header sweep. Arizona plays at the Giants today. If they lose, they will be in sole possession of the longest road losing streak in MLB history.

Not to be forgotten, the Orioles are about to lose their 19th consecutive road game today in Cleveland. Before this season, only 5 teams have lost 20 or more straight road games.

And the D-backs did indeed claim that record. However, Baltimore continues their efforts to wrest that record from the D-backs, once they win.

Aaron Nola struck out 10 consecutive Mets from the first to the fourth inning, tying Seaver's record.

He'd have a better shot at the single game record for K's, except that this is a stupid 7-inning first game of a double-header. Thanks, Manfred.
