2021 Carolina Panthers Thread - Time for the 2022 thread

The whole constantly trading down for the sake of getting more players thing seems dumb. Quality over quantity.

Exactly. Was getting ready to post the same sort of thing. We’re waiting and hoping guys last to where we graded them. Then they don’t and we get caught shocked like that pick felt like. I guess I hope there’s more strategy than that. Look forward to guitardeacs breakdown/debrief

Yeah. Tremble was projected 3rd round though.

Sporting News: Tennessee Titans (No. 85)
CBS Sports: Los Angeles Chargers (No. 77) | Cincinnati Bengals (No. 69)

LOL.

Basically, Panthers fans, Tremble is what would happen if Alex Armah and Chris Manhertz were melded into one person. He is a high upside pick that may take a little time to become something. The hope is that ‘something’ can become ‘something special.’

Not the worst year to do it with the way the season and pre-draft was because of covid. However at the same time the more picks means more likely to hit on something greatly diminishes when you keep doing it and move further back in the draft. Like the percentage of likely hits goes down as you go further back.

In most years, I'd agree. Watching on a couple different networks they've been saying that this season because of covid, lack of pro days, testing, etc. All teams have draft lists about half as long as usual.

Not saying I like it but it feels like they are just grabbing mass in hopes that half of them pan out. This draft (not just panthers) feels like there will be quite a few busts and surprises.

And just like that we traded our remaining third rounder.

This one looks silly.

Update 3: The Panthers have traded down again. They’re sending pick No. 89 to the Texans for pick Nos. 109, 158 and a 2022 fourth round pick.

If you look at the draft value chart, we gave up 145 to get 76, 26.6, and a 2022 4th rounder that could be between 37.5 and 82 in value. If it's the Texans' 4th it could be higher. If it's the one they got in the Hopkins trade, it could be lower. Seems like trading down just to do it.

This is an extremely frustrating draft.

Yeah, we wanted to trade back in the first and couldn't. The highest rated OT (an obvious position of need) left falls to us in the 2nd, but we trade back to a position that is ultimately too far to get our presumed target at TE, so we end up taking a WR, then an OT in the 3rd. Then, the next TE gets taken 2 spots ahead of us, so we have to settle for who, by all media rankings, would have been our 3rd option going into the day.

Personally, if we were looking at WR's, the guy who was just taken (Nico Collins) would have been just fine with me, but we had already taken one in the 2nd.

With more uncertainty in the draft, that's more reason to trade up or trade out for 2022 picks and draft 4 or 5 guys. Hope one or two of them turn into strong contributors and hope to get some good UDFAs everyone passed on due to shaky scouting.

At least avoid taking projects.

Yeah, I really wish we were trading for 2022 picks. Not more 4th and 6th rounders this year.

Kind of feels like, the fan base was so upset about not dropping back @ 8 that the GM said, "you want to trade back, HERE!"

Twice traded back in second round to teams that selected OT. Even with those trades we picked poorly.

Picked
R2 Terrace Marshall (B+) could have had Jalen Mayfield OT (B+ to Falcons)
R3 Brady Christensen (C) could have had Hunter Long TE (B- to Dolphins)
R3 Tommy Tremble (B-) could have had Amari Rodgers (B+ to Packers)

You can see the Marshall pick got us off schedule.

Asante Samuel went R2.15 which makes one question the necessity to draft Horn R1.08.
Is the difference between Horn and Samuel greater than the differences in players we took instead?

Where are those grades coming from? Kiper just said we had his favorite draft of the night.
