CT Brasky #2: Back when the CT was real

I would rather be in the Black Hills than Miami, and the White Mountains in New Hampshire are exponentially more badass than the Keys.

hm well badass yes, though i guess maybe if we're getting a bit more serious about the discussion it deserves a little better than the adjectives we're using, such as "cool" and "badass" and maybe we should just say what we mean

in terms of pretty things to look at, perhaps NH should go on teh list with other states that get free passes cause they have pretty things to look at. i just think of NH as the meth version of Mass.

My (insert whatever nomenclature DD won't bitch about) student just put on sunglasses before our quiz on direct and indirect objects and is referring to himself as the "grammar-nator" in a Schwarzenegger accent and is rapidly rising into my top favorite 5 students of my career.

who else is on this list? do you like teaching your players?

i feel like biff's take on miami was my opinion of LA before spending a week in different neighborhoods

i thought LA was all freeways and DTLA and douchey people. it is those things and other annoying things, but it's also fucking sweet.

I agree. There are some cool Atlantic coast spots, like Little and Big Talbot Islands state parks, Anastasia Island (I've only been to spots in the North), but they don't really measure up to St. George Island, or Ft. Pickens (Gulf Island National Seashore) on the Gulf in the pan handle.

I grew up going to Ft Pickens many summer weekends as a kid

Biff looks like a guy that went to Miami for a guys trip with a bunch of finance bros and couldn’t handle all the coke and nightlife so is scared to ever go back. Get him some boat shoes, a cardigan, the inner coastal and access to a schooner.

Sorry dude. I've spent more time in Miami than you might imagine and have been all over that place.

haha imagine thinking less of NYC because of "posers" are you 13?

No, I get tired of people who are full of shit and into ridiculous levels of conspicuous consumption. A little goes a long way.

I really think pretty things to look at/outdoor activities is at the top of my evaluative criteria and is probably 20 times more important to me than culture and food so our lists would probably be pretty different.

Arkansas - Ozarks are cool but yes
Connecticut - gross mill ruins everywhere - yes
Delaware - pointless tax haven - yes
Indiana - I hear has Indy as is cool but probably yes
Iowa - yep, nothing there
Kansas - flat grossness, yes
Missouri - St. Louis and KC metro area - nope
New Hampshire - went to a wedding in the lakes are and it was dope, no
North Dakota - definitely - having two Dakotas is pointless
Ohio - Three Larger cities, no
Oklahoma - The roadside tribe casinos are sad, but i like OKC, but yes
South Dakota - definitely - having two Dakotas is pointless

Every other state probably has something as cool though.

Sub out Missouri, Ohio and NH
Sub in Mississippi, Rhode Island Plantation and Nebraska

Man, that's tough. Kids with a sense of humor usually make the biggest impression on me, and I laugh at a lot of things that other teachers would get really pissed about. And I'm probably tougher on my players than on other students, but I enjoy having them in class and seeing them in a different setting.

i like ohio a lot more than the average person, but it's a pretty shit state. kinda similar to pennsylvania in that many of the places outside the cities are awful.

i hesitate on some kinda shitty states like west virginia, kentucky, and tennessee, which are bad on the whole but have a lot of natural beauty. utah and idaho and montana and wyoming are extreme cases of this. maybe new hampshire has some places that would fall in this category, not sure, but ehhhh.

I feel like we have to differentiate between living and visiting. It's just a huge gap there.

Tennessee is fucking amazing. Kentucky has got to be bottom 20, even with the darby. West Virginia is fucking balling to visit, but I would lose a finger before I lived there. Seriously, I'd have to be offered at least double my salary to consider moving to West Virginia. But for a week/weekend of skiing or white water rafting? Fucking top 10 choice.

I kinda feel like NC is bottom half to visit. I'd have to think about it. Living here? Fucking amazing. But as for stand out one-week experiences? Eeehhhhhh...

Like, I get that Asheville is cool, but Northern Georgia is basically the same thing without all the fucking hippies. Wilmington is likewise cool, but it's like at best 3rd (and probably more like 10th) on beach towns that I would want to visit.

The proximity and ease of living in central Carolina and having the option to visit pretty fun stuff at the drop of the hat is really amazing. But if I lived in Boulder, CO, would I fly to NC to visit anything? Probably not.

Florida would be great if it weren't for the residents and tourists. I can even tolerate the heat and the gators.

Also people there don't care about community norms and rules and are selfish.

Capital "G", please.

North Georgia is not the same thing as Asheville. North Georgia is not even generally the same thing as Western NC.

My wife drives me crazy when every place we visit she thinks is the most amazing place and claims she could live there. It’s like no shit we are on vacation.
