I've made this exact post before and we've had this exact convo before but:

I went to an Irish cultural festival and it was by far the lamest of the cultural festivals I've ever been to

It's today. She's probably gonna tell me I'm overweight to because she just uses that dumbass BMI chart, but I'm just gonna pop my shirt off if she does and be like, "girl, do these abs look overweight to you?".

And then I'll probably just get escorted out of the office.

Just don't mention the "gun show" because then I think they are required to call the cops in that scenario.

I’m sure Mako is getting top notch care in the middle of fucking nowhere backwoods North Carolina. Your health measurables should be on a sliding scale based off where you are located, probably the healthiest person within 50 miles.

I do get kind of resentful of the fact that my borderline obese doctor tells me that I'm overweight every time I see her.

obviously BMI is trash, but are there any long-term negative effects on the body for carrying a lot of muscle weight?

Probably for all these monster bodybuilders and pro football players but it’s probably negligible for only sorta swole guys like me.

I know that running is a lot easier on my knees and feet when I’m lighter though.

yeah, the Irish have some great writers and political minds, but their visual art, music, and food are low tier culture

is Chattanooga worth a 48 hour visit in covid times? never been, but driving to/from the Asheville area in a couple weeks and looks like an intriguing side trip

I’m convinced that nobody actually gets Joyce but pretentious assholes pretend to so they can seem smarter than the rest of us.

i feel like that's true of finnegan's wake, but way less so dubliners or portrait of an artist as a young man, and even ulysses

Bro, just come hang in West Jefferson. I’ll give you a true backwoods experience.

I'd say their contributions to world cuisine aren't great, but when you're there and go to the right places there are high quality products produced there. The dairy products, of course, including the best ice cream I've ever had, but also great beef and some unreal seafood. Probably the best oysters I've had were in Galway.

the Joyce class was one of if not my favorite course I took at Wake

I'm not doubting there are good restaurants in Ireland, but if you were to rank global cuisines, Ireland is way down the list

serious q: what does it mean to *get* Joyce

to understand the narrative? the references? the imagery?

took Joyce the same semester I took modern American with Hans so it was Ulysses and Gravity's Rainbow together and somehow I managed to read both of them at the same time

just dug a post hole for my new mailbox and am waiting for the concrete to settle
