Official 2021 College Football Thread: Grass Picker Named to CFP Selection Committee!

EAST LANSING, Mich. — When Michigan State coach Mel Tucker scoured the transfer portal this offseason, in search of an impact running back to bring into the mix, he and his staff found Wake Forest running back Kenneth Walker III.

haha yes, the very first time Tucker heard of KWIII was while scouring the transfer portal

Ohio U's HC Frank Solich announced he is stepping down because of health issues.

Solich was a player and long-time assistant under Tom Osborne's powerhouse teams at Nebraska, and in 1998, he succeeded the legendary Osborn as the Husker HC. Even though Solich went 58-19 and took the Huskers to a bowl game in each of six years at Nebraska, including a Big 12 Title and #2 finish in the country in 1999. In the eyes of Husker fans, Nebraska didn't perform up to Osborne standards under Solich. In retrospect, Nebraska's subsequent 4 head coaches (Bill Callahan, Bo Pelini, Mike Riley and Scott Frost) failed to reach the Solich's level in Lincoln. Now, the Huskers are just a middling Power V program.

After leaving Nebraska, Solich took over at Ohio from Brian Knorr (Knorr replaced Jim Grobe when Grobe took the WF job in 2000) who had driven the Ohio Bobcat program into the abyss. Ohio went 11-35 in 4 seasons under Knorr. Solich quickly turned the Bobcat program around with 13 winning seasons in 16 years, and Solich now is the winningest coach in MAC football history with a 115-82 record, 4 MAC Conference division and/or conference titles and 11 bowl appearances.

SEC having their media days. Greg Sankey all but said teams could forfeit if they have players out for Covid. He all but ordered teams and fans to get vaccinated.

Probably the best way to get rubes in Alabama and Mississippi to get vaccinated is to tie it to college football.

So only four teams in the PAC 12 have dozens of unvaccinated players.

ATS getting worried.

2030 and 2033? That's optimism. FWIW, the freshman that play in the 2033 game are 6 years old right now. Will Florida even have an OOC schedule considering that the SEC is going to be 32 team conference by then?

UCF will be the defending ACC Champ by that time having beaten App State in the ACCCG to win the conference's automatic bid to the Tax Slayer Bowl.

ATS getting worried.

Ha!

They should play UCF from time to time. I like it. 2 for 1 seems about right.

Of course, UCF will probably suck by 2024 and will definitely suck by 2030 & 2033.

Any chance Duke isn't the worst team in the ACC this year ?

We will find out who is the worst Power V football team when Duke plays Kansas on September 25. Tickets available.

Sounds like CFP might have to wait until 2026 to expand based on expansion and grumblings.

I'd have to see/hear his delivery to know if he meant it as a joke, but other than saying it in a public forum, I'd guess that comments like this between coaches and boosters are happening all over the place now.
