The Demon Deacon Men's Cross Country team competed in the NCAA Championships today. They finished 15th. Zach Facioni finished 27th to earn All American honors.

The team came into the NCAA championship after finishing third in the 2020 ACC championship. The Deacs were ranked second in the southeast region and 21st in nation prior to today.

This is the tenth time the team has competed for the national championship and this is fifth highest finish achieved. The last time Wake participated was 2001.

IMHO, when a Wake Forest athletic team competes for a National Championship it deserves recognition, hence this thread. Congratulations !

Congrats to the men for a great cross country season in very difficult circumstances for distance running.

Congrats to the team. Aren't cross country and swimming the most demanding of sports?

I like to remind people that swimming is one of the few sports that if you get tired you die

Kudos. Cross country is another program that Wellman neglected and let fall apart under his watch. Over a 10 year period, in the late 1980s to the late 1990s, WF won 4 ACC titles, and finished second the other six years; WF had a top-tier program. In the 2000s, there was a slow decline which bottomed out in 2015 when the Deacs finished 14th in the ACC, ahead of only Miami who essentially runs a walk-ons only program. Happy to see WF hitting its stride and returning to competitive status again.
