What rounds will Boogie, Sage, & Newman get drafted?

That is absolutely meaningless. They’ll cut his ass in a heartbeat and sign a capable backup on the day of the last cuts.

Play along. Otherwise, the narrative falls apart and the sports marketing department can't print meaningless statistics about players in the NFL. Play along.

I actually think the Eagles are an ideal spot for Jamie. Flacco has 1 maybe 2 years left, and while Jamie probably wont see the field he could use that time on the practice squad to improve and potentially fill that backup role eventually. All this will depend on if the Eagles see the value in keeping him on the practice squad though.

With semi-real OTA's and training camps planned for this summer, Jamie gets the chance to show the Eagles what he has. That said, if the Eagles need another backup QB, there will be ton of guys on the waiver wire.

NFL IG lists about ten “notable” udfa signings. Jamie is first; Sage not mentioned. #cold

I agree. And this is why it's often better not to get drafted than getting taken in the 6th-7th - you get to choose your destination. And I like Detroit for Surratt - they're devoid of WR talent. They spent most of the draft acquiring large bodies.

It appears that the Eagles only have two QBs on their roster:

Jalen Hurts and Joe Flacco

So, as along as Newman has a decent camp, would think that he would at least make the practice squad, and if anything happens to Hurts or Flacco, Newman might be line to make the active roster.

For Sage, the Lions essentially cleaned house at receiver after last season. Their 3 projected starters were signed as FAs and are, at best, middle of the NFL journeymen:

Brashad Perriman
Tyrell Williams
Kalif Raymond

Beyond those 3, the Lions have a bunch of untested young players. Consensus seems to be that receiver is the weakest position on the roster. So, looks like Sage picked a good landing spot. FWIW, in addition to Sage, the Lions signed ND WR Javon McKinley and Arkansas State WF Jonathan Adams (who many thought would be a mid-round pick).

Adams was anointed by Gus Johnson this past season as a future NFL star:

Yeah, their skill sets are similar. I'm more surprised that Adams didn't get drafted than Surratt, but either way, Detroit should be an enticing location for both of them.

[h=1]What all of us should take away from the Jamie Newman NFL Draft fallout[/h]
https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/g...uld-take-away-from-jamie-newman-fallout-2021/

At this time last year, the Jamie Newman balloon was expanding with each way-too-early mock draft.
David Pollack had Newman tabbed as a future first-rounder, as did CBS Sports, who had the new Georgia quarterback as the No. 8 overall prospect and No. 3 among quarterbacks behind only Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields. Sports Illustrated’s Monday Morning Quarterback had Newman coming off the board at No. 20 overall in the way-too-early mock draft, and Matt Miller had Newman at No. 29 overall.

Mel Kiper Jr. bought into the hype, too. He had Newman as the No. 4 quarterback on his board behind Lawrence, Fields and Trey Lance. Days after that, Kiper went on public airwaves and questioned if Newman could be the next great transfer quarterback after 3 such players went No. 1 overall in the previous 3 drafts.
“We want to see what the transfer from Wake Forest to Georgia, Jamie Newman, does,” Kiper said to ESPN host Kevin Negandhi last May on an episode of The College Football Podcast With Herbie & Pollack. “All of that talent, he’s certainly gifted. He’s got those young receivers now who will be sophomores. I think he one that could really make a nice jump. We saw (LSU’s) Joe Burrow make a huge jump up. We saw it with (Oklahoma’s) Baker Mayfield. We saw it, obviously, (with Oklahoma’s) Kyler Murray. Now we see Jamie Newman, the quarterback at Georgia.
“The first year there, we’ll see if he does well, how far he moves up the draft board.”
What Kiper and all of us didn’t know at the time was that we wouldn’t see Newman at Georgia at all. At least not in a game. Newman’s opt out in early September was equal parts baffling and unpredictable.

Newman’s path, though atypical, can benefit a future quarterback in his spot. Maybe there’s a quarterback in the way-too-early 2022 mock drafts who gets first-round buzz but has serious questions to answer, and instead of opting out, they get hurt before the start of the season and debate declaring for the NFL Draft. Newman can be a cautionary tale of what happens without those reps wherein the intermediate passing game issues are fixed, and defenses with blue-chip talent aren’t overwhelming.
Here’s hoping that’s the case. Regardless of whether you’re a Georgia fan who no longer claims Newman or if you were just someone buying the way-too-early hype, we should all be able to come to an agreement on something.
Playing football is still the best way to get better and show that you’re ready to play football for a living.

If you youtube Jamie Newman highlights its just filled with jump balls throw to 6'5 Scotty Washington and Sage Surratt. NFL offenses aren't built on throwing contested balls, so his skillset wouldn't seem to translate.

So Newman worked out with a QB guru who primarily worked with Hurts and squeezed him in if he had time. And he signed with a team whose QB staff will primarily work with Hurts and squeeze him in if they have time.

He'll be the only QB working during rookie mini camp. That may well be make or break for him.

The Eagles QB situation seems like a decent situation for an UDFA QB this year but hard to tell what it will look like going forward. It's almost in Newman's best interest for Hurts to have a successful season and for Newman to be successful enough to eventually make the team as his backup. If Hurts is not successful, then the Eagles are likely going to draft or trade for a new QB1, which may also impact who becomes the QB2 etc.

I agree. If they trade for Watson, Hurts would be a fine backup and they may not keep Newman. As is, seems like Newman will at least make the practice squad. That’s a good outcome. Going to a new coach with an unsettled QB situation as the only rookie QB is ideal for a UDFA.

I woulldn’t count on him making the practice squad.
