Biden to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan by 9/11/21

Could have guessed jh would be masturbating all over this thread. The guy’s so transparently desperate for things to put on Biden. He doesn’t give a shit about Afghanistan. Unless Donald Trump does, in which case he cares deeply. At any rate he is joyfully posting all this stuff.

Despite the knee-jerk gotcha crap by the usual suspects, this is a purely bipartisan result. It's pretty much the only thing that Trump and Biden were both 100% committed to. They're already deleting all the records on GOP internet sites about the incredible peace talks Trump had with the Taliban that promised full troop withdrawal. Even MSNBC is absolutely skewering Biden and his staff for this. The crystal clear hindsight is pretty laughable considering how long we spent there - it's frustrating to watch coverage that gives absolutely no negative hypotheticals any air. So we should have evacuated everyone who helped the US in a slow, pre-exit effort? Ok, so let's say that motivated the Taliban prior to Americans exiting and resulted in a few hundred troops dying. Or we leave a smaller force to shore up the major cities and provoke a high-casualty battle?

There are so many shitty results here that could have happened including the one that did. 20 years of training and arming their military ends in a complete and total surrender in a single day. Also ridiculous is slamming Biden for not listening to DOD experts while at the same time ridiculing the DOD experts for their predictions on the Taliban. Anyone trying to make this a winning political argument is simply arguing out of both sides of their mouths. Which is how someone like Liz Cheney ends up sounding like the voice of reason, incredibly.

There was no win to be had. After Trump's surrender there wasn't really a status quo to be held either. Hopefully Biden and company increase their efforts 100-fold to get folks out if they want to leave, and can find ways to exert enough pressure to prevent bloodshed.

But thanks to this inept Admin, there is now a loss.

Here's an idea: do it last week in broad fuggin daylight.

I also don't understand how this is possible cuz Trump dropped the Mother of all Bombs on Afghanistan in 2017 and was all grinned up about it.

I consider people falling to their deaths from the underside of a jet plane a failure, yes.

Do you think these were the only Afghans to die over the last 20 years?

"Is the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan inevitable?"

"No, it is not."

Oops. We just lived through Trump utter chaos and incompetence.

Not sure how Biden is going to fix this disaster...people hanging onto U.S. Air Force planes as they takeoff...that's a sign they may know something is not ok...

You don't have to be this useful of an idiot. If you will uncritically, docilly tolerate this level of failure, then your vote isn't really in play. Have higher standards for your government and your self.

So just developed these standards last night? Where have those standards been for the last 20 years? Our Afghanistan policy has always been a fucking disaster.

This thread certainly is delivering! It’s a mess for sure and sounds like current admin got caught flat-footed on how this was going to go down. My prediction: this will be the flashpoint topic du jour for August but will quickly be forgotten. Everyone wanted us out and that of course was going to let the Taliban take back over. The exit is messy but i don’t think that’ll stick on Joe. Or put another way I’m sure this will be down the list for ‘pubs come election time.

Vote for the team that created this mess or vote for the team that is stuck cleaning it up. Pretty easy choice.

Has anyone texted Psaki to leave the the Frozen ride line at EPCOT and haul ass to MCO to catch the next flight back to DC??

imagine this fucking douche getting mad at a press secretary for having an OOO message on her email when his God played 260 rounds of golf and at a cost of well north of $100M for taxpayers. No one should ever listen to anything a GQPer has to say about anything ever again.

So are you just blaming the execution or the withdrawal itself?

The execution speaks for itself. I can't believe there are serious people defending it (don't worry: there aren't.)

The withdrawal was inevitable but that picture shows just how fast the placed collapsed. We'll be undoing the costs of this egregious failure of execution for years. Less than an hour ago, we're sending another 1,000 paratroopers. We're now up to three times the amount of troops we had in country on January 20th. Complete debacle.

no ruling required

Right, it's a loser politically for everyone, the voters don't care about Afghanistan, so there will be month of barking and then it'll plunge to the bottom of the issue barrel unless there's an attack on US soil.

The GOP can't argue against the withdrawal, Trump wanted it faster and just as total. They can't argue Biden's legitimized the Taliban - Trump met with them and promised complete withdrawal. They can't shame the left about the tragic people of Afghanistan because refugees and immigrants are the root of all evil. There will also be a natural disgust by conservative military-minded Americans at how the Afghan military just immediately and completely not just gave up, but joined the Taliban. Plus leadership just bailed and fled the country without any resistance. Nobody wants to send American troops back to die for that level of indifference.

There's no winning messaging from the left either. It may actually end up increasing the bipartisan efforts around infrastructure since everyone will be very excited to change the subject as quickly as possible.
