Michael Collins, astronaut, command pilot for the Apollo 11 mission, has died. He was 90. He circled the moon while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon. Another of the first generation space flight pioneers is gone.
He said the most terrifying time in his life was the three and 1/2 hours waiting for the lunar lander to make the trip from the moon and complete docking. He didn't want to be the sole survivor of the mission.
He was selected to be the commander of Apollo 17 and land on the moon, but retired before that mission flew.
His wife and son predeceased him.
Condolences to the remaining family and his friends.
