Banning Critical Race Theory

I find it hilarious that jhmd is trying to position himself as an outsider on a forum that's probably 90-95% white guys between 30-70 years old with college degrees. If he can't handle what passes for "the left" on a Wake Forest message board, the actual world will blow his mind.

When I need insight on the actual world, I immediately think of you. Thank you for being there to explain the actual world to the rest of us.

This.

There’s a ton of ideological diversity on here. Laugh if you want, but we actually look pretty similar to the US, imo.

We have a handful of genuine leftists, at least one self-identified socialist/DSA guy, some old school left liberals, some new school kinda neoliberal types, true moderates who kind of toe the ideological line between fiscal conservativism and social liberalism/libertarianism, moderates who probably would have been safely Republican back in the 90s but are now questioning their alignment, hardline party line conservatives, libertarian-questioning right wing types who have more qualms with the party line than they let on, some pretty racist troll/Trumper types, etc.

There are some clear generational divides on here with Milennial and Gen X probably having the biggest constituencies. There are some Boomers, but they have done a great job of running themselves off.

Folks live all over the country, too, though the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic are the biggest regions.

You also have a combination of townies who went to other colleges, townies who went to Wake, and out of towners who went to Wake. Everyone is college educated, many with advanced degrees, on here but this is a college sports message board.

Occupationally, it seems like the majority are lawyers or professional middle managers, but there are a lot of professional researchers and teachers on here, too.

We have virtually no racial and gender diversity on here, which actually strikes me as a pretty big deal (and makes the protestations on this thread sound all the more pathetic), though I can imagine it’s comforting to the likes of jhmd and Junebug.

This Washington Post article nicely sums up the GOP/Fox News strategy here:

"Charlie Sykes, a longtime conservative commentator and editor-at-large for the Bulwark, described coverage of critical race theory as a kind of "shark attack politics" relying on a limited set of local anecdotes to tantalize viewers.

"This resonates with an audience that doesn't want to confront racism but also thinks that the left is nuts," Sykes said in an interview. "You only need a handful of extreme comments on Fox News to create this picture out there that this is widespread. We do live in an age where anecdotes will always trump data." Prominent conservatives, including Stephen Bannon, a former adviser to Donald Trump, have seized on critical race theory as a campaign weapon. Sykes argued that political motive is "very much linked" with widespread coverage of the theory in conservative media. "I do expect that this is going to be effective," he added."

It blows my mind that a college professor thinks they have even a partial understanding of what the “real world” looks like.

Of course.

It’s entirely about ginning up misinformed and disinformed passion for political power.

What the fuck is with this myth?

Something people tell themselves to feel better about their ignorance, arrogance, and lack of intellectual curiousity. The people who spread that myth typically think they know everything and lash out against those trying to understand the world better.

Note that I didn’t even claim to know the actual world. I just said that if jhmd thinks the gender, sexuality, race, and class homogeneous Tunnels is the radical left, actual leftists in the broader world will blow his mind.

Take this compliment in the spirit in which it is offered, but I don't find you very interesting, compared to say Brasky or Strick. You've got a long way to go. Your name-calling is getting there but could still use some work, you aren't quick enough to anger, you haven't confessed resentment to ancestors who provided for you, you haven't threatened to push senior citizens down flights of stairs at public buildings because they disagree with you on policy, and to be honest I don't even have a picture of you in my head. No offense, but you're basic.

So, you are not interested in having a rational conversation. Got it.

This is so dumb. Raise kids while maintaining your status in your profession and then come back to tell us about the real world.

Now that everybody has pointed out how stupid you sound here, I'm curious to know: what do you think the "real world" looks like, and why wouldn't a college professor understand it?

We're going to give you partial credit for this response. Of course I didn't say that (after all, you're "quoting" someone you're supposedly arguing with, so adjust accordingly), but you guys do regularly blow my mind. You definitely, accidentally got that part right.

Whenever I'm looking for a rational conversation with people with a diverse array of opinions whose fingers rest comfortably on the pulse of the real world, I head straight here.

The people constantly trying to "raise awareness" are some of the most self-unaware on Earth. This place always delivers.

Lake life in central Texas with mid pandemic trips to e Caribbean inconvenienced by other people getting the disease. That’s the real mother fucking slap life professors know nothing about.

Man, nothing gets college professors more riled up than pointing out how easy they've got it.
