2021-22 Men's Basketball Schedule

The ACC opponents who WF plays twice:

L'ville
Miami
FSU
Cuse
Duke
NC State

Expectations can change, but Duke, FSU and probably L'ville are Tier 1 ACC teams (expected to make the NCAAs and compete for the ACC title). Cuse and State are middle Tier teams (bubble teams who could make the NCAA tourney). Miami has the highest expectations of the lower tier ACC teams (Clemson, Miami, Pitt, BC and WF). Collectively, would rate the schedule as slightly tougher than average. Hurts to not play BC, Pitt or Clemson twice. Heading into the season would expect Duke and FSU to be the two highest rated ACC teams. Tough to play them both twice.

Interesting to note that in both football this season and basketball next, 75% of our total schedules for both are against P5 teams.

I have 15-16 or 16-15, depending on the result of the last game against state. Squeeze out 2-3 more wins and it would be a amazing job by Forbes.

In the pre-season poll, WF will be picked either 13th (ahead of only Pitt and BC) or 14th (ahead of only BC). More than any other team in the conference, WF will outperform pre-season expectations. Given the level of past suckitude, I understand why it will be easy to slot WF near the bottom of the ACC, but WF can reach the 9th or 10th place range. While there has been some disappointment with the near recruiting misses from the HS class of 2022, a solid season this Winter will lead to banner 2023 and 2024 classes.

Wake Forest also received some attention from league coaches, with one pointing to the Demon Deacons' schedule as a place for them to develop some momentum. Outside of the Emerald Coast Classic (where LSU and Oregon State are in the field), they should be favored in every nonconference game, and they get to face Florida State, Duke and North Carolina in Winston-Salem in January. The Deacs could garner some bubble buzz early in ACC play. "They have talented freshmen, some impact transfers," one coach said. "They have a legit frontcourt and return their two best players from a year ago in [Daivien] Williamson and [Isaiah] Mucius. They'll be old, they'll be experienced, with size and athleticism."

Some nice pre-season pub for the Deacs.
