Cuse basketball has gone downhill since Boeheim was forced to fire chief recruiter and pervert Bernie Fine. Whereas Fine used to recruit top African-American players ftom NYC, Boeheim now has to survive with 3-point launchers like his two sons. Keep in mind that Jimmy Sr., played exactly that way (tho they were only 2-pointers in those days) playing alongside Dave BINGO in the mid-60s. The move to the ACC has really killed the programs of the northern schools who joined the league.

The first part of your paragraph is much more important to the second. Syracuse lost their recruiting mojo. Without top players, they are but a shell of their former selves.
