Pro Hoops Deacs - Jake LaRavia with 89 points in last three games of the season

That's great news. Last year 69 players were invited. The vast majority were drafted. A few went back to school (e.g. Max Abmas, Ochai Agbaji, Johnny Juzang)

Seems like he's waiting to see how he does at the Combine.

That's exactly what Jake has said. While the chances of Jake playing for WF again are remote, LaRavia has stated that returning to college remains an option depending how the final NBA evals go.

Each and every subsequent NBA mock draft/big board/etc. I come across seems to have Jake projected to be drafted higher (i.e., earlier) than the one before, to the point where it feels like Jake being a first rounder has moved from plausible to probable.

Love kids having and reaching their dreams but Heard from a pretty plugged in Wake guy that Forbe’s Toronto NBA guru feels Jake is a great kid with lots of versatility but not First round talent. Not an elite shooter either which he could improve. No way he gets time to back people down like he did in several of his best stretches for us when he had the mismatch. Love him, know he will get his shot in the League for a stretch. I’m going with a draft slot of 39ish so he comes back.

Air Alamo really likes Jake. Here’s a recent mention:

3. Jake LaRavia, Wake Forest
It's hard to mention Wake Forest basketball without immediately thinking of the greatness of Tim Duncan. Jake LaRavia walked the same hallways and played on the same court as Duncan during his time in Winston-Salem. And while LaRavia may not be quite the powerhouse TD was coming out of Wake Forest in 1997, he's a versatile all-around player that could help the Spurs from day one.
A big wing that plays like a modern four, LaRavia has excellent touch around the rim, shooting 56% from the floor in 2021-22. He's a bruiser who can take you off the dribble from 15 feet out and score over you or hit you with a sneaky good right-handed hook shot. The 228-pound forward isn't one-dimensional offensively, either. LaRavia shot 38% from three on 73 attempts during his junior season at Wake. He brings a strong rebounding presence as well and could be a very solid addition with the 38th pick.

I would love him with the Spurs.

Well, if anyone could see Jake's potential, it would be Pop.

The NBA combine is next Monday, May 16 to Sunday, May 22. Going to be interesting to see how Jake and Alondes measure at the beginning of the combine. Much of the combine will be televised on NBA TV.

The NBA Draft Combine starts today. We should get official measurements tomorrow. Jake was listed at 6-8/235 at Wake. If he measures out around 6-9/240, I think his stock will go up to be a solid first round pick and can be slotted as a stretch 5.

I can’t see Jake as a NBA 5, but I am sure he will do whatever it takes.

It’s more about how the game has changed. Look at the teams who made the playoffs. Their primary 5s are around 6-8 to 6-10 and 240-255 and can defend multiple positions. Showing that’s what he can do in this context would be good for his draft prospects.

Did a cursory search for pre-Combine lists and here are a few hits:

The Nuggets SB Nation site has Alondes #19 and Jake #24:

28. Golden State Warriors

Jake LaRavia | 6-8 forward | 20 years old | Wake Forest

LaRavia has risen up the board as teams have gone back through tape at the start of the process. He stands out due to his feel for the game, his 6-foot-8 frame and his skill as a shooter. The teams that tend to love him are analytically inclined and value the ability to dribble, pass and shoot. He’s not the most athletic guy, and some teams do have athletic concerns about how he might hold up on defense. But LaRavia is very good as a team defender and makes the right rotations. For a role player, it’s tough to find more than that. Given his intelligence as a mover without the ball and his shooting, the Warriors seem like a perfect fit.

SBNation has Jake at #29 in their first round mock.

[h=3]29. Memphis Grizzlies - Jake LaRavia, F, Wake Forest[/h] LaRavia transferred to Wake Forest this past season after two years at Indiana State and immediately became both an All-ACC performer and a legitimate candidate to sneak into the late first round of the NBA draft. A 6’9, 235 pound forward with a 6’11 wingspan, LaRavia has an enticing off-ball offensive skill set while competing defensively with quick hands and enough size to defend in the front court. LaRavia showed quality shooting versatility for the Demon Deacons, hitting 38.4 percent of his threes this year. He’ll need to prove he can up his volume after attempting only 73 triples all season. He can also provide offensive value as a heady cutter, and by posting up smaller defenders. He finished in the 96th percentile on post-ups this season, per Synergy Sports. LaRavia doesn’t create much off the dribble, and needs to be set up for his threes, but his intersection of size and shooting should be appealing to teams.

Pro Hoops Deacs - LaRavia and Alondes invited to NBA Combine

Pat Riley’s body fat standard is 7-8% for forwards. Jake is still young so he has time to drop the baby fat. Those are good measurements for a switchable wing, a little small for a small ball C.

Williams’ measurements look good for a complementary guard/small wing. I’ve seen a few draft sites list him as a PG so that’s great combo size.
