Official 2021-22 NBA Offseason Thread - Warriors extend Poole and Wiggins

Let's start with the fact that Doc is the only coach in NBA history who has blown three 3-1 series leads in the playoffs

Sports involves luck, they had some bad luck. Which is the Doc chokejob?

YR1 - Losing to 2012 Spurs with a cast of Nick Young, Kenyon Martin, Mo williams and Randy Foye
YR2 - Losing to Memphis after Blake getting hurt
YR3 - Losing to OKC in the one main CP3 choke trying to draw a shooting foul from 90 feet away and turning it over, two turnovers in 17 seconds in gm5 at 2-2. Probably the worst moment of CP3's career.
YR4 - Beat Spurs in 7, then CP3 pulls hamstring and loses to Houston after being up 3-1
YR5 - Portland - CP3 breaks hand
YR6 - Utah - Blake out for series

you could do the inverse of this, and ask for an example of excellent coaching from doc?

he is still riding his 1 title when he had thibs on his bench and 3 hall of famers on the roster

Beat the Spurs in 7! Watched him for 6 years pretty much every game. He draws up great plays. Also as mentioned, did well with some scrubs after CP3/Blake left

soooo in 7 years as the clippers coach, his greatest coaching moment was winning a first round playoff series in 7 games (and then losing in the next round)?

p sure doc is one of The 15 Greatest Coaches in NBA History

Yup. Bad luck with injuries

I'd argue the Spurs front office has been pretty passive for awhile. They just had Duncan/Parker/Manu and then Kawhi to cover up a lot of problems. Until this season, they didn't seem to know how to do a rebuild. This rebuild should have started last year.

But over the last three weeks, they've done what I've wanted them to do. They've tightened up the roster to get rid of rotation guys in Forbes, White, and Eubanks who just didn't fit the rebuild. Now the roster is emerging stars (Dejounte, Poeltl), young guys who should improve, and Doug McDermott who has become less necessary now that Keldon is shooting 43% from deep and Zach Collins is healthy.

Now they can roll out Murray/Vassell/Johnson/Collins/Poeltl with Jones/Primo/McDermott/Landale off the bench and see what they have before the draft.

Very bittersweet day with DW leaving. But I’m more excited for the Spurs future than I have been in a long time. 3 first round picks (if they keep them) is a franchise defining moment.

Ty Lue bested that in his first season

Blake and CP3 get injured 4 outta 6 years. Shoulda had a white coach instead.

Celtics bringing in Allen and Garnett did wonders for Doc's career. He was flaming out in Boston before that and suddenly he gets an influx of major talent and has been riding that "player's coach" reputation ever since. Has any other coach in the league done less with more in the last 15 years? We're supposed to believe it's all just bad luck?

docs record is pretty dang good, largely with the clippers who were always a joke as we know. i don’t think he’s the best or anything but he does seem to deliver good teams consistently.

the fuck is wrong with you

We have a reckoning in one league about why there aren't any black coaches, and one of the most prominent ones in this league gets considered a donk by you because cp3 has a weak hamstring. Jus' sayin.

also, doc getting fired created two head coaching spots for black coaches in the nba (eta: 3 if you count Chauncey)

(and now he's free to stink it up in philly)

Interesting thread from the last game Harden played before coming up with the Hamstring tightness and sitting out

Listening to some podcasts now it is easy to forget that just last season Harden was being talked about as an MVP candidate after he got traded to Brookyln and was carrying them, then hurt his hamstring in the playoffs
