2021-22 Men's College Basketball Season - UNC v. Kansas for the Natty

1300 Americans die every day from COVID, and that obviously doesn't count all the people that live but have completely changed lives from kidney failure, stroke, amputations, cardiomyopathy, etc. COVID is currently the third leading cause of death in the US, and may become the first leading cause over the next month.

This all sucks. Big time. But it is a nasty, deadly virus and is highly contagious. The more COVID spreads, the more people become hospitalized, and the more people die. That is why there are so many efforts to prevent spread, even amongst low risk groups - because the more it spreads, the more people die.

I completely agree with rewarding the vaccinated, and I wish Wake asked for vaccinated confirmation for all those attending the games.

Lol

Lol at what? Would you rather they cancel the games or have no fans again?

A brief glance at his other posts indicates it is probably a complete rejection of COVID, vaccines, and/or science in general.

Whoever runs that website is smart. They understand the conference needs Wake basketball back with big crowds and national attention. The core of ACC basketball needs to be made up of schools that actually prioritize the sport. At times that’s really just the four tobacco road schools and Virginia. Syracuse does as well but they’re geographically and culturally irrelevant to the conference.

I know that the protocols for a lot of these conferences are to make these games forfeits in the standings and they don't count in the teams' overall records, but there has to be at least an attempt to reschedule imo. That would be an opportunity for a resume builder lost.

This article makes it sound like the game will not be rescheduled - https://www.cbssports.com/college-b...entucky-vs-louisville-canceled-ucla-on-pause/

ACC rules are if 1 team can't play due to shortage of players (in conference), then its a forfeit for the one team. If both teams can't play then both get Ls.

As it stands now, looks like Louisville will probably have to forfeit against WF and that will count officially in the conference standings. The NCAA is going to remove those games from a team's resume for seeding. The CBS article says "Forfeits are not recognized officially by the NCAA selection committee, so any games not played as initially scheduled will not be reflected on team sheets."

Florida State and Syracuse are the other two ACC teams "paused" right now.

As the rules stand now, I don't see how this CBB will work. They will have to adjust like the NFL, but it looks like each conference has their own rules. Another mess.

I think it'll all work out alright in the end. This should be hopefully a much quicker surge up and back down so shouldn't effect conference tourneys and the NCAAs too much. Also, we now have vaccines and it is way less dangerous because of that, and it's something that the whole landscape of the sport has to deal with. Can't be worse than last year and I thought that in the grand scheme of things last year ended up as good as it could have.

NC State ruling on Dennis Smith, Jr recruitment
https://www.yahoo.com/news/nc-state-basketball-vacate-wins-181532405.html

The N.C. State program will have the following penalties:

A $5,000 fine.

For the 2022-23 academic year or first available opportunity, a reduction in total number of grant-in-aid awards by one men’s basketball scholarships.

One-year probation.

A one-year show-cause for Gottfried.

A six-year show-cause for Early.

Vacate wins from 2016-17 season.

Exactly, the fine should be a multiple of the money paid the recruit if you're really trying to discourage this sort of thing.

what? why are they even penalizing teams anymore with NILs in the mix? what happened here is the same thing promoted now. just because the calendar changed you are calling this shenanigans? lolz

College basketball is completely corrupt. The NCAA just serves its owners, which are it's member institutions. And the bigger the clout of the owner, the more they can get away with. See UNC.

If the member schools can figure out a way to make more from March Madness that the NCAA tournament, they will do it and the NCAA will be a memory. College sports needs some rules for a fair playground but the NCAA just provides an illusion of fairness.

They need to enforce the rules equally regardless on which school it is. However, they also tread lightly with this stuff for the exact reasons you stated above losing the interest of their members. I hope the NCAA can figure out how to properly regulate but it's nearly impossible. Hopefully they are at least able to deter this type of stuff to a meaningful degree without collapsing as an organization because if you take the NCAA out of college sports just about every school would eliminate ever sport but football and basketball to save money as the only thing keeping a lot of programs in the NCAA requiring a number of varsity sports.
