An elongated mesh point that makes it seem like those two inhabit their own space-time continuum amidst 20 other bodies.

If Wake has played their best game they’ve played all year, they’re in trouble, but I don’t think there’s a good case to be made they’ve done that. In every game this year we’ve seen parts where the defense looks elite but the offense looks awful, and the other way around. While Wake has done enough to win 6 games in a row, if they want to reach an ACC championship game and make this season actually special, they’re going to need to continually improve as the season goes on, and that starts on Saturday against a multi-faceted Army team.

The "Cllaw-fense" is tough on defenses because nobody knows exactly what the play will be until Hartman decides at the end of the mesh. RB run, QB run or pass? Nobody knows until Hartman decides. WRs run routes, and have to run good ones because any snap could see the ball heading to one of them.

In essence, Wake's offense calls the play after the ball is snapped. It's hard to disguise the D once Roberson, Perry and Morin are headed down field.

The teams that have defended it best have great athletes on the D-line who can crush the middle of the pocket before Sam finishes his read and the mesh ends.

Yes. And the QB must be a legitimate threat to run to make it most effective. Clawson said as such during last night's radio show. When asked about the Army triple option, Clawson responded that Wake pretty much runs the triple option only that the RPO is a "very sexy" triple-O. He also added that if most schools ran the traditional triple option, no one would come to watch. His words. Not mine. Said it works at service academies given the personnel.

The big difference between the RPO and the triple option is that the RPO has a strong emphasis on passing as a part of the options. The triple option is mostly about choices in the run game.

IMHO, the Wake RPO would be more accurately called the "pass - run option" because the Wake quarterbacks look to see if the defense is likely to allow a good pass attempt.

The triple option is the QB deciding if the FB dive will get three plus yards, the QB keeper will get three plus yards or the pitch to the RB going outside will get three plus yards. All this behind a line that is run blocking/cut blocking to create running lanes. The pass is an afterthought.

Back in the seventies when Wake ran the Veer variant of the triple option, the Wake wide receivers barely had more catches than the Wake defensive backs.

Kind of crazy that an undefeated P5 coach is under the radar but that’s fine with me.

Lack of prior recognition of DC reflects the historical lack of hype and exuberance for WF. Plus DC is a serious persona not typically attracting a media in search of a hot interview.

This will be a classic WF close game that takes years off your life. We will get up early, they will come back, and then we will have game lost/won back and forth for last quarter. I think we pull it out but won’t be pretty- Like 24-20. Let’s just get through it, get no games hurt, and come home for the gauntlet.

The Packer and Durham and Dusty and Dan radio shows need to show some love for this offense this week.

Packer and Durham give us props every week. They will again this week. We will be on wide receiver u and all that. They will also make fun of our defense. As they should.

*more. P&D are pretty fair. D&D could pick it up a little. We’ve got a really good QB, receivers, etc.

We have a porous defense too!
