The current CBA expires on December 1. If a new CBA is not negotiated and agreed upon by that date, the sport will shutdown until a new CBA is reached.

As of today, here are the current MLB off-season deadlines:
:

November 3: The beginning of a five-day period where teams and players must decide whether to exercise or decline contract options and opt-out clauses for the 2022 season. Eligible free agents cannot sign with anyone but their current team for five more days.

November 7, 4:00 pm CST: The deadline for teams to issue qualifying offers (one-year, $18.4MM contracts) to eligible free agents.

November 8: Free agency officially opens. Link to 2021-22 FA's: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/11/2021-22-mlb-free-agents.html
Headliners:

Freddie Freeman
Kyle Schwarber
Carlos Correa
Cory Seager
Kyle Seager
Trevor Story
Marcus Semien
Kris Bryant
Joc Pederson
Jorge Soler
Trevor Bauer
Clayton Kershaw
Robbie Ray
Carlos Rodon
Noah Syndergaard
Justin Verlander
Craig Kimbrell

November 8-11: General managers’ meetings, hosted in Carlsbad, California.

November 17: Deadline for players tagged with a qualifying offer to accept or reject the QO.

November 19: Deadline for teams to add players to the 40-man roster to keep them from selection in the Rule 5 draft.

December 1, 11:59 pm: Expiration of the current collective bargaining agreement. If MLB and the MLBPA do not agree on a new CBA by then, the league may institute a lockout that freezes teams’ ability to make transactions until negotiations are resolved.

December 2: The deadline for teams to tender contracts to arbitration-eligible players.

December 6-9: Winter meetings scheduled to take place in Orlando, Florida.

December 8: Rule 5 draft.

December 15: Conclusion of the 2020-21 international amateur signing period. Typically scheduled to run from July through June, the 2020-21 and 2021-22 international signing periods were delayed to run from January through December as part of MLB’s COVID-19 rules changes.

January 14, 2022: Date for teams and arbitration-eligible players to exchange filing figures. Teams and players are still free to settle and avoid arbitration after this date, although many clubs elect to proceed with a “file-and-trial” strategy — essentially deciding to proceed to a hearing with any players with whom a settlement is not reached by then.

January 15, 2022: The scheduled start of the 2021-22 international amateur signing period. The 2021-22 period is scheduled to run through December 15, 2022.

February 26, 2022: First games of Spring Training.

March 31, 2022: Opening Day.

Buster Posey is retiring. If he holds to the decision, he is going out on top. Still one of the best catchers in the game.

Rays sign 20-year old Wander Franco to 12 year contract (buying out his arbitration years and several FA years) for $185 million guaranteed and additional incentives that could total $223 million. Rays are so smart. If Franco comes anywhere close to the player that is projected to be, the Rays successfully bargain shopped.

FWIW, MLB teams are scrambling to reach deals before the December 1 deadline (end of the current CBA). Likely that after December 1, MLB teams will be prohibited from making any deals for quite awhile.

My Rangers are actually spending money. I dont know what to do

Probably still a few years away from real contention, but they apparently arent done either

The Gausman deal is insane. 5/110 from Toronto. No way that ends up being a good deal.

Seems like today will have some fireworks in order to get physicals complete by Wednesday's deadline.

It appears this Scherzer deal to the Mets will get over the line today. Reportedly 3/$130.

Done. Highest average annual value for an MLB contract $43 million a year. Scherzer will be 40 when that contract ends. While that is a lot of risk, Cohen has money to burn. History doesn't favor teams that try to buy a title.

Looks like the Mariners will sign Cy Young winner Robbie Ray.

Pitchers are getting expensive long term contracts again. Such deals usually end badly for the team signing the pitcher. The frenzy of deals before the lockout makes it harder for the players to claim the inherent unfairness of the current system as a variety of teams (Mets, Mariners, Rangers, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Twins, Rays) have all signed players to 9 figure deals.
