2021-22 Wake Women's Hoops Thread - Hoover fired after 10 seasons

The bad luck of Morra's absence and Spear missing about 10 min due to "getting her foot rewrapped" (which had to be coach cover for an injury) was more than balanced by the ACC DPOY and leading rebounder getting injured in the 1Q. Not to mention, this team was pretty lucky with injuries all year.

Morra did Senior Night, but she does have a COVID year. Speaking of, Gina Conti hasn't played at all year and could feasibly medical redshirt at UCLA.

My completely uneducated guess is that Hoover returns. Her record is underwhelming, but it's less underwhelming than the previous group of WF women's hoop coaches (realize that's a low bar). Think that last year's NCAA bid bought her some goodwill. All that said, think the determination about whether Hoover returns or not will turn on issues that only those inside the athletic department know (e.g., how Hoover gets along with others in the athletic department, closeness of team, Hoover's diligence, assessment of recruits coming in, available alternatives). You can make valid arguments either way on the direction of the program. Things like Morra's absence last night seem to always happen to the program; also, WF best player by far had her worst game of the season last night and WF still almost won, is that bad coaching or bad luck?. Over Hoover's first few years as HC the number of injuries to hit the women's program was an anomaly. Then again, there is no doubt that Women's hoop is the most under-performing program in the athletic department, and after 8 seasons, the responsibility has to go to the HC. Completely trust Curry to make the right determination after he takes into account all factors.

I'm not sure it's the most underperforming. There is still volleyball....

Women's hoops outperformed men's hoops over the lost decade. One reason Hoover has stayed may be that Currie couldn't justify hiring a new women's coach with men's hoops still in disarray.

Reportedly Gina was going to be the starting point guard at UCLA, but injured her foot in an October practice. One would think a medical redshirt would be in order. The Bruins could surely use her.

Barely. Tallest midget for sure (no disrespect to any midgets out there!)

Some one should get spear some NIL money before transfers.

For real. I wouldn’t blame her for leaving. She’d be really good as a sniper on a talented team.

The Miami team that we beat on the road in one of the ugliest games ever played is in the ACC finals against State today.

So I guess Jenn Hoover still has a job ? 15-16 this year. 4-14 in conference.

They were the 8 seed in the ACC Tournament and played their way into an 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

It’s frustrating to see that and have no real explanation why Wake can’t do that. That game at Miami was an evenly matched game between two bad teams.

Did Hoover get an extension after last season?

Only team in the nation to have both men's and women's hoops play in NIT?

No. Minnesota is 14-17. The WNIT is like the NIT, CBI, and the other one combined.

We are playing Akron who lost their last game to Buffalo by 39 points.....GET......YOUR....TICKETS!!!!
