2021-22 Women's Basketball Thread

Women playing at home vs Cornell now on the ESPN app. Started off with a 3 by Spear.

Up 15-9 at the end of the 1st. Spear with 7 points.

Up 29-19 at the half. Spear with 15 including an deep NBA three to end the half. She’s made a leap. Still an excellent three point shooter, but she’s added a nice drive and finish.

Up 43-30 at the end of the 3rd. Spear with 25. She had a logo three to end the quarter. 10-13, 5-8 from deep.

Spear has been a walking bucket this game.

32 out of the 64 points. 12-16, 7-11 from deep.

I wish there were highlights available. She was fantastic. Those deep threes at the end of the 2nd and 3rd were as confident and pure as any WNBA or NBA three you’d see in that situation.

Gina Conti grad transferred to UCLA.
Ivana Raca was drafted by the LA Sparks but didn’t make the active roster. She’s playing in Italy now.

Transferring to UCLA pisses me off.

Grad transfer. She gave four years. Good for her.

Spear with 24 points. 6-13 fg, 4-9 3pt. 14, 32, and 24 in 3 games for 23.3 ppg.

A slow start against Charlotte. Down 17-8 at the end of the 1st. Charlotte is the CUSA preseason favorite. But they got destroyed by UNC 89-33 on Sunday.

31-24 at the half. Deacs had some momentum but couldn't hold on.

Lady Deacs up 47-41 going into the 4th. Held Charlotte without a FG from 8:43 to around :50 in the 3rd.

Lady Deacs win 55-49. Freshman Elise Williams led all scorers with 15. She had 5 reb, 3 ast as well. Spear had 12 points on 3-15 shooting. Summiel had 8 pts, 14 reb. This game was a good example of how good defense can carry a team on an off-shooting night.

2021-22 Women's Basketball Thread (Lady Deacs are 4-0!)

Another slow start against ECU. Lady Deacs down 16-13 at the end of the 1st. Feels like it should be worse. Game is televised on ACCN.

Up 36-22 at the half. This team certainly has an MO. Start slow then pour it on in the 2nd and 3rd. Spears leads with 10 pts. Eight players have scored. Harrison out with an ankle injury. Freshman Alyssa Andrews with a 3 to end the half.

Up 56-36 at the end of the 3rd.

Final 73-52. Spear with 19 on another off shooting night (4-12 fg, 1-6 3pt) but she was 10-11 from the line. Freshmen guards Elise Williams and Alyssa Andrews had 11. Andrews was 4-4 fg and 2-2 3pt.

RPI doesn’t mean anything but Wake is #19 according to Real Time RPI.

http://www.realtimerpi.com/rpi_Women.html

According to the RPI Ratings, WF's remaining OOC games are against:

#143 High Point
#354 UMBC
#158 Nebraska
#264 Troy
#236 ETSU
#339 South Carolina State

Not exactly murder's row. Hope WF is ready when the ACC games start. Understand piling up wins against weaker teams, but it's also good to get pushed.

You mean like our men’s team?

2021-22 Women's Basketball Thread (5-0 Lady Deacs)

We can’t really say we know much about either hoops team except we’ve been much much worse.

22 assistant women’s basketball coaches ready to lead their own programs https://theathletic.com/2917547/202...heir-own-programs/?source=user_shared_article

Erin Dickerson Davis, Wake Forest associate head coach

Dickerson Davis was included on this list last season, but was promoted in May to associate head coach. “Erin has come in and made an immediate, positive impact on our program,” head coach Jen Hoover said in the release. “Erin is a tremendous teacher on the floor, who brings a wealth of experience that will take our recruiting efforts to the next level.” Dickerson Davis, who was honored on the WBCA’s 30 Under 30 in 2017, works primarily with the team’s perimeters players, including all-ACC players Gina Conti (now a grad transfer at UCLA) and freshman Jewel Spears. Dickerson Davis was instrumental in the recruitment of Raegyn Conley (No. 60 in the 2021 class), the Demon Deacons’ highest-ranked recruit since 2014.
