2023 WF Baseball - Schedule Released

I really wondered how long it would take you to respond. Did you know that out of the past six times the CWS was populated by four teams from a single conference, that conference was the SEC ?

Why would anyone on a Wake board know or care?

Is there some sort of poster-exchange program that we are part of? Is there a Wake poster on the UGa board promoting the ACC?

Michael Massey, RHP, looks to also be transferring over from Tulane.

My guess: Biff's loathing of Tech since childhood is so acute that it can't help but spill over as distaste for the rest of the ACC, including his alma mater.

Sad.

Dude knows how to hold a grudge, that is for sure

really good addition, imo. he was one of the better pitchers on tulane as a true frosh. depending on what shakes out, seems possible he could end up as mid-week with keener taking over golob's role as setup man.

also if isaiah lowe makes it to school, he appears to be someone who could contribute right away.

the incoming transfers could be that guys like adler, cecere and bennett may have told the staff they are planning on going pro, but they did all come from private schools (and one from ivy) so possible they aren’t taking much scholly space.

cole roland is the dartmouth guy, should be a viable bullpen guy.

Lanzilli just hit a 3 run HR to lead Arkansas to a 6-1 lead over Stanford in G1 CWS, Now in 6th inning.

This might be the worst CWS in a long time. None of the games have been close.

Any word yet on who's leaving?

No regular position player or pitcher that started a game or recorded a save has entered the transfer portal.

As for the MLB draft, the following players are eligible:

Brandon Tinsman
Adam Cecere
Pierce Bennett
Eric Adler

Of that group, Adler, despite his control issues, is the only one in the top 200 (first 6 rounds) in the mlb.com's top 200 2022 draft prospects. So, whether the other guys leave to sign with a MLB team will depend on what is being offered. That said, the Tulane catcher would not be coming to WF to sit behind Tinsman; so, it appears that Tinsman is likely to be drafted and sign with an MLB team. In addition to those 4, incoming WF recruit Isaiah Lowe may get drafted. Lowe is a legit two way player with a 96 MPH fastball, and light-tower power. So, it would be great for WF baseball if Lowe makes it to campus in August, rather than signing with an MLB team.

Here is Lowe's PG profile: https://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerprofile.aspx?ID=567830

On a related note, Rhett Lowder, Teddy McGraw, Brock Wilken and Nick Kurtz received invites to tryout for Team USA. Team USA is comprised of the best non-draft eligible players in college baseball. Tryouts are over the next week or so in Durham. 50 players were invited; the 26 that make the roster will travel to the Netherlands to represent the US in a World Baseball Tournament.

There is an understandable level of frustration with WF baseball not meeting expectations based on recent past results. Well, looking like next year's WF team will have the highest expectations of any team in recent WF history.

If Walter can't make a Super Regional with this amount of talent, his head should roll. I am sure and I'll bet Walter is sure that John Currie is watching this situation very closely considering the amount of $$$ that has been thrown into baseball.

Ole Miss wins the title, a team that barely made it in. But experience and "been there" carried them.

Curious take. Ole Miss had been to the college world series once in the last 50 years, and unless they had a transfer who did, no one on the roster had ever played in the CWS.

Ole Miss was ranked #1 for a couple of weeks this year. They did have a lot of talent. Just sort of sputtered out of control in the middle of the season and found their footing again by the end of the year.
