No Tom on the senior bowl is good news. Would think he would have been invited.

Sciba playing in the NFLPA Bowl:

Well that stinks. I really don’t understand that move.

He’s already 22. He might want to get on with his life rather than waiting around to see if Texas A&M or whoever decides they are going to play our juggernaut on a weekly basis?

We gonna have more guys in the pros. Book it.

He will need to find a team that is OK with just everything inside 50 yards and nothing longer. Also, has a punter with a big leg for kickoffs or a coach who is OK covering kickoffs to the 5 yard line.

And who has a current opening at kicker. Making it in the NFL as a specialist is a crap shoot even without those limitations.

Considering the absolute debacle at kicker across multiple teams in the NFL this year - even just to find someone who can kick an extra point - I wouldn't be surprised at all if Sciba finds a team with a kickoff specialist that also handles 50+ long shot field goals while Sciba knocks down his 90% from everywhere else. The longer extra point makes him more valuable I think.

Maybe pair him with Joey Slye, but outside that sort of situation I don't see him in the NFL. And I don't know what NFL team still carries 2 kickers.

Maybe if he could learn to directionally punt as well or something. Buthis kickoffs suck, his leg is not strong for FGs, and his kicks look fugly. Great college kicker, but NFL teams will not be impressed.

I’ll be rooting for him, but I don’t love his chances. However, coming back may not have ever been in the cards. He’s graduating and may have no interest in grad school. He might just want to go ahead, take his shot at the NFL and if he doesn’t make it then get started in life in whatever field that is.

might be a good fit for a coach who decides their strategy is to almost always go for it on 4th outside of the red zone

Rather than pissing on his chances, I wish him much success. Hope he proves many skeptics wrong and am grateful for his contribution.

Don't think we are "pissing on his chances." Just noting that he doesn't fit the current "conventional wisdom" of what an NFL kicker should be.

There is a difference between honestly discussing a player's strengths and weaknesses vs being overly harsh and intentionally belittling someone. If the only thing people were allowed to post on message boards were positive, optimistic things - it'd be pretty boring and useless. I don't think you will find one person on here that wishes him (or any of the other NFL Deacs) bad luck.

Back to the overall topic, I think Sciba can make a very good career for himself but it will have to come with a team & coach that can use him effectively. At the same time, given how much a lot of the NFL kickers miss right now, I'm sure there are a good amount of coaches that will take a highly accurate guy even if they lose 5-10 yards of FG range.
