Vaccine or negative test requirement for bball games starting next week

Covid unfortunately (and Omicron in particular) shows very little preference in spreading between unvaccinated or vaccinated.

Moronic and false. You have to be infected to spread COVID, and being vaccinated (and boosted) immensely decreases your chances of getting infected, also being vaccinated shortens the amount of time in which you can spread the virus.

Fuck. Stop it with this bullshit. If you can’t be helpful and reasonable then please gtfo.

I thought the masks were to protect others and not yourself? Or does that part of the #science not apply anymore?

I swear you, and others who take this stupid straw man approach are being deliberately stupid. The science involved in health care changes constantly. What is a front line approach to a health issue a few years ago, can dramatically change with new information, more scientific studies, peer review, etc.

Do you think we treat cardiac issues, or diabetes the same way today as even 5 years ago? New drugs, new approaches, new routes to desired outcomes are constantly explored, reviewed, modified and evolving.

Stop being such a simpleton in your assessment of the way people who spend a lifetime working on public health issues continue to evolve in their positions.

Leave science to the scientists.

There’s a long list of diseases that have been eradicated by vaccines because more than enough people got vaccines.

Eradicated? No, that list is not long. Smallpox is the only one.

Localized elimination? Yes, that list is long, but, with the efficacy of our current vaccines, COVID-19 will not be on it anytime soon, even if Wake Forest requires vaccination to attend basketball games.

Like all vaccines, these vaccines would be more effective if more people took them. Players can make shots but the team wins the game. Same principle with individual and community vaccination. Right now, our team has players who won’t get their shots and our team can’t win.

I've yet to see any mention of the university's potential liability if they *don't* put a policy in place (including revisions based on science). We live, unfortunately (at times), in a litigious society.

And, whatever happened to "err on the side of caution"? I mean, Pro Humanitate and all all that?

I'm very interested in (civilly-suggested, logically sound) instances of freedoms without some inherent limitation...or cost.

A person who claims to have gotten sick from attending a basketball game will not be able to demonstrate that the school had a duty to keep them safe (probably), that a school who doesn't impose a vaccine requirement breached that duty (probably), or that the school's breach of that duty caused their sickness (almost certainly). Even if they could make these showings, they knew or should have known about the lack of a vaccine requirement, and thus assumed the risk.

Jeez. Went to Europe over the holiday. To go and not be quarantined had to be vaxed and a neg pcr test within 48 hrs of flight. Then test negative one day before returning to US.

The airlines had to verify your documents or you don’t get on the plane.

Total pain, but odds of getting much smaller on those planes than going to the grocer. If I didn’t like showing all my documents I just don’t go.

Can’t go to Hawaii and not quarantine with out vax.

Make your choices but your life will be increasingly limited.

Right….and scientists are always right, always agree and have a monolithic view of every scientific issue. I suppose the scientists at Harvard, Oxford and Stanford who wrote the Great Barrington paper are just moronic idiotic stupid bleep bleep bleep scientists who know nothing and deserve to be destroyed by Anthony Fauci and Francis Collins.

The people on this thread are the epitome of the thing they say they hate. Unbelievable.

I’m all for my body my choice until it starts affecting other people. At that point, there should be consequences. Unvaccinated people shouldn’t be allowed to attend the games regardless of a negative test, IMHO. Would love to see us get to that point.

Put me in a packed house at the Joel full of all vaccinated or all unvaccinated people and do I really have a lesser chance or catching it with one crowd over the other? The best thing people can do for themselves is get vaccinated. You don't want to be affected by other people, then get vaccinated. We shouldn't care about what whether others are getting vaccinated or not (apart from our own family, friends, and loved ones). Their life, their medical bills in the unlikely event that they require hospitalization. You've done what you can already. Quit worrying about the vaccination status of others. I'd understand it if we were still in the beginning of this when the thought was that vaccination would reduce transmission, but we're now more than a year into the vaccination era and the evidence indicates that isn't the case. Especially with omicron.

Wake students have to be vaxxed and boosted before coming onto campus this weekend.

I hope they have some sensible exceptions to that, given that a lot of kids who went hope planning to get boosted got Covid instead before they could get boosted.

BTW, all I said I would do is stay home and watch the games on tv. For that, I was called all kinds names and curse words. I got vaccinated, my children are vaccinated my grandchildren are not because they are not old enough and my father was vaccinated and got Covid-19 and died from it. I was accused of all sorts of things that I never spoke about. What is wrong with you people? Are you so hateful that you care whether I watch the games of tv?

Stop being so reasonable. This is COVID that we are talking about - you need to pick a side, get into your respective echo chamber and throw insulting missiles.

We get variants because COVID gets to fester in unvaccinated people. Vaccination has been a group project for centuries. Get vaccinated and end the disease. It’s only within the last year that people see vaccination as an individual effort.

But you both show a gross misunderstanding of things. Yes. Me being vaccinate/boosted keeps me from worrying about dying. However, he continues to be wrong about vaccinated getting covid (even Omicron) at rates equal to the unvaccinated. That's just wrong. And thus, the unvaccinated will continue to allow the virus to replicate and mutate. And they'll also overrun the hospitals and prevent routine care (I can't do elective inpatient surgery starting tomorrow) And soon enough we'll have a nice virus that our vaccines don't work against. And the rubes will say it was all a scam from the beginning. When they never did a damn thing to help try and slow this thing down. So yeah. I'm vaxed. Boosted. And very likely good to go. But it's called PUBLIC health for a reason.

Ah yes. The pivot to the victim card.
