Ukraine is game to you?

It has nothing to do with us being their ally. It's in the best interest of our national defense to keep a standing army in Germany as a deterrent to Russia and by further extension China.

Our presence in Europe, and as the key member of NATO, is what allows for a stable European union.

We certainly can do it, but Europe could also do it. The more we do, the less Europe has to do, and the less Europe will do. I'd rather sell the weapons to Germany, Italy and the UK and let them put their sons and daughters forward.

This is kinda of close to a specific policy preference from Woke and Broke. It not really immediately related to Ukraine and it’s not very specific, but it’s a start. Congrats!

I agree with this, with the caveat that we end our economic interventionism, particularly our anti-Islamic and anti-Socialism intervention.

So how soon after shit hits the fan do we get conservatives complaining Americans are stuck in Ukraine despite now weeks of being told get the fuck out?

I mean, wow. Never even imagined that this is going to happen.
Now I'm not too sure.
Is Putin still pulling our puds and having fun doing it?
And if he does invade; how the hell do we (and the world) respond?

There will also be the inevitable bitching about how Biden is so "weak" that this happened, with no mention of how Trump hero worships Putin and is basically his lapdog, nor how Putin has become the darling of much of the American Right.

I’ve already seen some stuff about how the rubes are pushing back against Fox News for not adopting a pro-Putin narrative.

Closing up the embassy is a really big deal. Its not like the US is going to walk back in there right after and reopen.

Sorry I’m too lazy to read the whole thread - guess I’m a little confused at to why we’ve decided to let Russia just walk in and invade another sovereign nation?

they took Crimea 2014?? with limited consequences and then spent the trump administration with donnie and the pubs courting putin, kissing his ass, meeting with his spys in the oval office, and destroying/hiding notes from those meetings. what could go wrong? #notthepuppet

Because we've appeased them for 8 years after they did the same in 2014.

what would you have done differently?

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen of the press. I am delighted to join you after meeting my Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov. This time, we have not bothered to discuss treaties he won’t respect and promises he won’t keep. We have told him, instead, that an invasion of Ukraine will carry very, very high costs—higher than he has ever imagined. We are now planning to cut off Russian gas exports completely—Europe will find its energy supplies somewhere else. We are now preparing to assist the Ukrainian resistance, for a decade if need be. We are quadrupling our support for the Russian opposition, and for Russian media too. We want to make sure that Russians will start hearing the truth about this invasion, and as loudly as possible. And if you want to do regime change in Ukraine, we’ll get to work on regime change in Russia."
