2022 Carolina Panthers Thread - Move to the 2023 thread

If stank face Rhule starts Darnold against the Browns... I am going to fucking lose it!

Vernon Butler released by the Raiders.

And just so we're clear here, this isn't a Vernon Butler problem; it's a Dave Gettleman problem.

Panthers 2016 Draft:

1 (30) DT Vernon Butler Louisiana Tech 2016-19
2 (62) CB James Bradberry Samford 2016-19
3 (77) CB Daryl Worley West Virginia 2016-17
5 (141) CB Zack Sanchez Oklahoma 2016
7 (252) TE Beau Sandland Montana State

TBF, there weren't a lot of serviceable DTs drafted after Butler either. But you may recall that our WR corps was pretty bad despite going to the Super Bowl. Michael Thomas was drafted early in the second round, and we didn't even draft a WR.

Also, we still had JStew, but drafted CMC in 2017. Derrick Henry was also drafted early in the second round.

LOL, the Jets took Christian Hackenberg in the second round and he was gone from the Jets after two seasons and out of the league a year later.

Gettlman hated the thought of drafting players anywhere near their consensus rankings because he then loses the opportunity to look likes he’s smarter than everybody else.

Also TBF, if that list started off with Bradberry in the 1st at 30 and Butler in the 2nd at 62, nobody would be complaining. You can't ignore the good and just focus on the bad.

Bradberry was a serviceable pro but not a first round talent. BTW, Eli Apple was a first rounder. But to hit on one guy out of five in a draft is pretty bad, especially when you draft three guys at the same fucking position.

So PFT is now reporting that Walker will start this week and play the 1st and 3rd quarters with Corral playing the 2nd and 4th. So the 2 guys who are competing for the job aren't going to play a snap in what is usually the game where the starters play the most minutes and only get 1 series in the 1st game and presumably won't play more than that (teams typically don't play any starters in the last preseason game). Meanwhile the guy who will get the most preseason snaps is the 1 QB of the 4 who we know will never be a starter in the league. Can someone explain the logic here? I'm at a loss.

Rhule doesn't really operate in the realm of what rational humans consider logical.

is Rhule trying to look out for his guy Walker to give him an open audition for other teams, is genuinely conflicted about whether to keep Corral or Walker, or is actually planning on keeping 4 QBs on the roster?

If Rhule really likes Walker, then the smart move would be to cut Darnold at the end of the preseason and let him try to catch on with another team. Why keep a potentially disgruntled former starter around? That said, why in the world is Walker the QB who is getting the majority of the preseason snaps, and why are the QBs competing to be starter only getting 1 series each? Seems to me you'd want to give those 2 guys more time to prove themselves and give the rookie a longer look to see what you have there. Again, we clearly already know what Walker is - a career back-up.

and again, we clearly know also that Rhule fucking sucks ...

Rhule seems to think of himself as a "disrupter" who has cracked some football code. The NFL doesn't work like that. It's about accumulating and maintaining enough advantages to stay ahead of everyone else.

Walker or Darnold are getting cut/traded. There's no other way that makes sense. And I doubt anyone will trade for either. If he doesn't want to play Baker or Darnold then give Corral the first half.

the starter competition is over, its already been reported as baker. they just haven't announced it publicly

the team fucking traded up to get Corral. Fucking play him. We know what Walker can do. Part of me suspects they're holding onto Darnold to see if they can get some kind of panic trade from someone.
