2022 MLB Season Thread

Maddon guided the Cubs across the finish line (which buys a ton of credit), but the Angels consistently underperformed while Maddon was there, and he was the king of really questionable in game decisions. Certainly didn't help that Mike Trout is hitting .146 and slugging .229 during the losing streak.

And just like that the Phillies win 7 in a row.
Never thought Girardi was that bad (or, more accurately, that the team minus Girardi was that good), but the Marlins once turned a hot streak following a Jeff Torborg firing into a WS championship, so here's hoping!

Makes me wonder if Girardi didn't understand the gravitational pull Harper has in the clubhouse. Maybe he was too invested in the veteran additions instead of letting Harper's rookie protégé play.

This Yankees team is a hell of a lot of fun to watch. Down 6-3 in the 9th, Aaron Hicks ties it up with a three run bomb and then Judge walks it off with a hard hit single to left. It might be June 23, but The Stadium sounds like it's in full October mode already...can't remember ever hearing The Stadium this loud in June. Huge win over The Cheaters.

A Cinderella story.

Seriously, I looked at the standings yesterday and was struck by how far and away the Yankees lead in winning percentage. The Dodgers are somewhat close in run differential.

The crazy thing is they're doing it in the AL East - as of today, Toronto and Boston are two of the wild card teams, and Tampa is a game behind the Twins for the last wild card slot.

Yankees have a tough trek in front of the All Star Break - four more games against Houston (plus a doubleheader right after), three at Cleveland and then seven against Boston. Sure, the Oakland/Pittsburgh/Cincy series sprinkled in are nice, but it's still not an easy trek.

Maybe the Yankees will just cruise through the regular season, the playoffs and W-S, but if they keep this pace, they are going to win a 110+ games, and will suddenly be under massive pressure to produce in the playoffs. It would be so on-brand for MLB for the Yankees to have the best record by 15 games, and then choke out in the best of 5 LDS to the Blue Jays.

Also, no team has suffered fewer injuries to date than the Yankees. Maybe that lasts, and they have a magical year, but if past is prologue, only a matter of time before Stanton, Judge and a handful of pitchers get nicked up. If that happens in October, all of the wins piled up in May and June won't matter.

Dodger Stadium concession workers may go on strike for All-Star game and related events: https://sports.yahoo.com/dodger-stadium-concession-workers-could-go-on-strike-right-before-2022-mlb-all-star-game-203243001.html

That's leverage at work.

Also, the Phils are in Toronto tonight and tomorrow. Apparently, 4 players aren't vaxed and can't cross the border: JT Realmuto, Alex Bohm, Kyle Gibson and Aaron Nola.
How many do most teams have? 4 seems like a lot. JT not doing himself any favors with his comments

Alex Bohm and Aaron Nola not being vaxxed is the least surprising news I’ve heard this year.

Congrats to the O’s on their surprising competitiveness this year.

Congrats to the O’s on their surprising competitiveness this year.

O's have the first pick in Sunday's MLB draft. They have slowly accumulated talent. The O's are only 2 games out of a WC spot.

Royals travel to Toronto this weekend for a series against the Jays. TEN Royal players won't be making the trip because they are not vaccinated, including Whit Merrifield. Think the previous record for unvaxed players was 4 Phils and Red Sox.

What ever happened to Whit merrifield’s brother wasn’t he on the wake baseball team? He’s not on the roster anymore. He quit school over the vaccine requirement?

Don't think Hite Merrifield plays baseball any more.

I'll probably jinx Seattle's winning streak by posting this, but Scott Servais deserves some respek, seems like he has that team overachieving on the regular
