NFL Year 2022. Superbowl Winner: Kansas City Chiefs!

Sounds like the OT rule is changing for playoffs only that will allow both teams to possess the ball.

In the playoffs, 90% of the teams that won the coin flip won.the game. In the regular season, it was 55%.

Playoff teams are usually good. That’s a good tweak to the rule.

The main reason for the OT rule is to prevent the 1:00 games from running into the double header or to keep the 4:00 games from pushing back 60 Minutes or the FOX animation block. So giving both teams possession in the playoffs makes sense.

Owners were very much in favor of the revised OT rule for playoffs. Coaches were not as enthusiastic. Why? Because they will have to make a decision if they win the coin flip. Offense or defense?

Take the ball and try to put a big number on the scoreboard or play D, try to keep the opponent to a low number, and know what you need to do on offense. Coaches will call the plays differently if the know they cannot punt and thus have all four downs to use to get 10 yards.

The rule change makes offense vs. defense a more complex decision.

If you take offense, you get to put up points and put pressure on the other team. Perhaps the biggest benefit is that if the game stays tied after the other team's possession, you get the first sudden death possession.

If you take defense, you get to counter whatever the offense does including going for 2 for the win.

I think I still take offense, but it's close.

Bruce Arians retired to a Bucs front office role. DC Todd Bowles promoted to head coach.

Always thought Bowles deserved another chance. The Jets are always a mess but he produced a 10-win season with them without a ton of talent. Will be interesting to see if the Bucs D slips a bit though

Lol, Brady's power play to try to get out of Tampa didn't work but gets a compromise with Bruce fired.

I don't get the trade from Miami's perspective. You're basically giving him away for free to a division opponent. He's now the best WR on the Pats roster, and he's under contract for a reasonable $5mil per the next 2 years. If you didn't see him fitting in with the new regime, trade him to the NFC for next to nothing.
