Wake Forest Athletics announced today the creation of the Official DEACTOWN NIL Marketplace for the Demon Deacons, powered through a continuing collaboration with Opendorse that will create avenues for student-athletes to work with fans, alumni, brands and sponsors for NIL activities in one streamlined and compliant platform.

Through the Marketplace, Wake Forest student-athletes are able to engage in promotional and related opportunities from interested third-parties who can browse, propose, book and pay for NIL activities. Student-athletes can review opportunities, accept deals and receive compensation all in one place. Once a deal is completed, the activity is automatically disclosed to ensure compliance. Opendorse is the owner and operator of the platform.

The number of deals completed thing is odd. How do some of the women’s track athletes have more deals than any MBB player?

the way I have it sorted by # of deals completed Bradford is #3

But it's not shocking to see non revenue sports higher up. They're more active in the NIL space, at least through Opendorse's numbers, as more than half of the NIl transactions that come through them are for sports that aren't football/basketball/baseball

TIL cheerleaders can get NIL deals.

The end of student athletes as we have known them. Enjoy yourselves. I will be gone unless Wake takes a higher but less glorious road.

Seems dramatic for some student-athletes getting some side hustles.

I think this is really cool. Especially in a marketplace where cultivating a good social media brand can be a great career move beyond sports. These student-athletes are really getting an opportunity at professional development here. Kudos to all involved.

What’s the “higher ground?” Letting kids have and feel less than compared to everyone else around them while the university is busy making millions off them?

How terrible that the kids who create the product that people pay to watch will get some money whereas all the old wrinkly administrators who blight the entire university and who have never done a damn thing anyone cares about may not be able to replicate at their same rate.
