Basketball Recruiting Megathread 1.0 has run its course

Moto is not done either. While they got upset in the semis of their conference tournament, Episcopal is still the #2 seed in the Virginia Independent Schools bracket. Believe they play their round of 16 game on Tuesday.

Devin's season is not over yet. They can win in the consolation Tuesday and still make states. Thomas has plenty of anger to channel into making a run. Evidently Harrisburg's strategy was just to foul the shit out of him. Devin alone was 23-36 from the FT line. Highlights below:

Big man can even handle the ball a bit. And he definitely likes to run his mouth some.

Lol that video is awesome. Love the intro.

Is there a link to that bracket?

It's hard to find articles on Moto and Rountree. I guess their online newspapers aren't searchable through google news. I know you have to sign up to read the Wilson newspaper articles.

I haven't been able to find one. I just heard about it since St. Christ's is the 10 seed, so they might play on Wednesday.

I wonder why Oak Hill is not in that National Prep School Championship tourney? Would love to see that face off.

Along with Drexel, Penn & La Salle, the Wake Forest staff is watching 2013 St. Joe's Prep (PA) wing Miles Overton, per a source.

2nd time in two weeks, must be pretty interested.

From last week: http://articles.philly.com/2012-02-24/sports/31095817_1_temple-big-east-owls

Overton attracting attention. Things are starting to pick up for Miles Overton.

The St. Joseph's Prep junior combo guard has scholarship offers from St. Joseph's, Seton Hall, Drexel, La Salle, and San Francisco, among others.

"Wake Forest is coming on strong," said Overton, a 6-foot-3, 200-pounder, whose father, Doug, played at La Salle and had an 11-year NBA career. "Their coach [Jeff [Redacted]] was at the practice [Monday]. So it's a lot of schools."

Kansas is also expressing interest.

"It's probably going to grow a lot," Overton said of his recruitment. "Just in the last two weeks it's been growing."

In addition to Wake Forest, he has been contacted by Rutgers, Maryland, and St. John's in the last two weeks.

Oh man, Doug Overton. I hated him when I was a kid because he was just so bad.

Scout article from 1/11/12 says he was a breakout performer at the Cancer Research Classic, but doesn't say what his stats were.

Another article says he scored 20 during a game in which he had the flu. Apparently he was knocking down 3's. Sounds like a 6'3" shooter.

Another Philly guy from Battle's neck of the woods. Overton's team is actually playing Tony Chennault's old team for the Championship tonight.

Evaluation from this summer. Sounds like interest has really picked up at the end of this HS season though.

Strengths:
Overton is a well built guard with a strong body and knock down shooting stroke from the perimeter. He is a very good three-point shooter with deep range and a high release. He has the frame to absorb contact and a good pull-up inside the lane. He handles the ball well enough to play some point in a pinch but plays the game with an aggressive scorer's mindset from the perimeter.
Weaknesses:
Overton isn't explosively quick and so he isn't much of a blow by threat off the dribble and can struggle to contain certain defensive match-ups. For as good of a catch and shoot threat as he is, he can be rushed into spraying his shot some when chased off the line.
Bottom Line:
Overton is a catch and shoot swingman with a complimenting pull-up game and the strong body to play through contact.

Sounds a bit like Harvey Hale.

Because we DEFINITELY don't need a big guy that can bang down low in the post. Don't need that at all.

NEED MORE WING PLAYERS. ALWAYS NEED MORE WING PLAYERS!

Agreed. Sounds like a pure shooter with good size is priority #1, and athleticism/defensive ability priority #2.

“[Paul VI] didn't win anything [Sunday],” Jones said. “They get to go down in league history as being undefeated and that's definitely an accomplishment they should be applauded for, but they don't get to put a banner up for finishing in first place in the WCAC regular season. If that was the case, we wouldn't have any more space on our wall.”
