The Official "Ohhh Florida" Thread

Of course there are other options, but those options require the cooperation of the mentally ill patients which is not always easy to obtain.

The infrastructure now means case workers are police. That also doesn't help.

I have no idea what you are talking about. It's not like that in MD. There are numerous free clinics and such people can go too, as well as aggressive outpatient facilities which can be free of charge for the indigent. But you need compliance with the treatment plan, which is difficult for the mentally ill.

The only way to ensure treatment is involuntary confinement, which severely limits the rights of the patients. It's a conundrum, but the legislatures have generally fallen on the side of the liberty rights of the mentally ill. Generally, the standard is very high for involuntary admission to mental hospitals.

A Florida teenager is recovering after being bitten in the face by a water moccasin.

The bite happened last Saturday, according to investigators with Florida Fish and Wildlife, two days after Austin Hatfield, 18, captured it in his girlfriend's yard in Wimauma.

One of Hatfield's friends, Jason Belcher, was there when it happened. Belcher said the snake was initially in a pillow case.

"He took it out, put it on his chest and it was acting funny, and it jumped up and got him," he said.

The snake lunged at Hatfield, biting him on his mouth.

"He ripped it off his face, threw it on the ground and he started swelling up immediately," Belcher said. "It was pretty frightening. We've done a lot of stuff together. This is the one thing that scared me the most."

Deputies: Pair steals $200 worth of meat from DeLand Winn-Dixie

As Rowe left the store, the manager stopped her and grabbed onto some merchandise but Rowe hit the manager in the neck multiple times, dropping a pack of pork ribs, two packs of detergent and three water filters, deputies said.

Rowe then dove head-first into the car Edwards was driving and they sped out of the parking lot, deputies said.

Once inside the car, Rowe started pulling steaks out of her pants, reports show.

When deputies searched the car, they found five ribeye steaks valued at $123.24, two 3-pound packs of ground beef valued at $23.94, four packs of bacon valued at $43.99, two packs of pork ribs valued at $31.09 and a $2.49 gallon of bleach, reports detail.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — 16 people were arrested and 20 more arrest warrants were issued after an undercover drug investigation into a Southside night club.

Undercover officers completed more than 100 transactions inside Pure Nightclub over 10 weeks during "Operation Poppin' Molly", sheriff John Rutherford said in a press conference Thursday. The operation was named after the street drug 'Molly', the drug predominantly found during the sting.

Love the operation name.
